Not according to most on here. I've voted Tory before purely for Unionist reasons and I've been told I have to endorse every negative thing about them.

I don't agree with this take considering I disagree with a lot of their policy but most people on here definitely do think this position is a phoney one, so to speak.

You are fully entitled to your thoughts and position.  Let people think what they want, as long as you are true to yourself.

On the subject of allowing 20,000 to enter UK from India when a travel ban should have been imposed. The PM only adding India to the red list three weeks after banning flights from Bangladesh and Pakistan. So in short our baffoon PM delayed putting India on the red list because he was wanting to fly out there on April 25th to discuss a post Brexit trade deal. He was forced to cancel on the 19th. Allowing all this to happen just because he wanted his photo opportunity with the Indian PM.

The f**king idiot.

Another massive error of judgement from Boris Johnson.

Johnson is a psychopath. None of what has happened in Covid and in wider society is in any way a surprise.

Daily Cases Update:  Another poor day with cases up 5.28%

Glasgow continues to surge but it is now very much in Cowboy & Indian territory in the Wild South side.  1 in 60 now have the Rona confirmed.

Obviously the protests against the eviction in Glasgow and the support marches for Palestine weren't 'endangering lives'...

Of course, these are fantastic causes, and the Buns are vermin, but you don't get to pick and choose your virtue signalling nonsense.

Another one bites the dust...

A landmark Oxford University study has confirmed current coronavirus vaccines work well against the Indian variant, raising hopes Britain can avoid a new wave of deaths.

Early findings from the urgent laboratory study into the B.1.617.2 strain show there is only a small loss of protection from the vaccines’ effect.

AstraZeneca and Pfizer doses still create enough antibodies to neutralise the highly contagious Indian strain and significantly diminish the risk of hospitalisation and death.

Sir John Bell, Oxford’s Emeritus Professor of Medicine, told Times Radio’s T&G programme: “It looks like the Indian variant will be susceptible to the vaccine in the way that others are.

“The data looks rather promising. I think the vaccinated population are going to be fine. And we just need to pump our way through this.”

The Indian variant is not as vaccine resistant as the South African, which is causing scientists the most concern, the Oxford study also found.

It reacts like the Kent and Brazilian variants, the study found. The research was led by a renowned immunologist, Professor Gavin Screaton, head of Oxford’s Medical Sciences Division.

Sir John added: “If you do the lab experiment, which is you take plasma serum from someone who’s received the vaccine, and you look to see its ability to neutralise the virus, that is a highly effective way of telling whether you’re going to be protected or not.

“It looks okay. It’s not perfect but it’s not catastrophically bad. There’s a slight reduction in the ability to neutralise the virus, but it’s not very great and certainly not as great as you see with the South African variant.

“It’s rather close to the Brazilian version where the vaccine serum seems to be very effective in neutralising the virus.

“The antibodies you’ve made after you’ve had the vaccine which are floating around in your blood are good enough to neutralise the virus if you get it.”

The new evidence confirms the view of Professor Chris Whitty, the chief medical officer, who told the Downing Street press conference on Friday there was “very high confidence” the vaccines provide substantial protection against people dying, having severe illness and being admitted to hospital.

Whitty said the vaccine provided less protection against more mild disease and “some protection but less still against transmission”.

He added: “The expectation is that with new variants if you lose some efficacy ... you first lose the very low protection of people having asymptomatic or very mild disease, then you lose the protection against the more severe disease and finally against the most severe disease and people having mortality.”

Professor Paul Hunter, of the University of East Anglia, said the Indian variant escapes immunity to a degree, but not as much as the South African variant.

“My best guess is that we will see infections in vaccinated people but they generally won’t be as ill as unvaccinated people,” he said. “So there will probably be a lot of cases but fewer hospitalizations and deaths.”

Watching the fans at Wembley I was curious to compare the rates.

Leicester's daily rate is 69.1 per 100,000 an increase of 33% on last week. There were 12,500 Leicester fans at Wembley.

There will be no Hibs fans (from Edinburgh mostly, rate 19.8) or St Johnstone fans (from Perth, rate 28.3) at the Scottish Cup final.

Rate in the Wembley area is 55.1, no change from last week.

Chelsea fans likely come from all over but the rate for Hammersmith and Fulham is 15.1

If England is anything to go by the SFA could have hired the biggest stadium outside Glasgow- Murrayfield- and held a cup final between Saints and Hibs in safety.

Tin and pot come to mind.

It looks like the Indian variant will be susceptible to the vaccine in the way that others are.

It's almost as if vaccines and the sophisticated human immune system that they kick into action are playing on a different dimension altogether to some shan variant of the same fucking virus. Who could have possibly predicted this outcome?

NB: And this is solely based on antibodies present, which is not even remotely the only trick available for a primed immune system.

It's past time that heads rolled in the ranks of SAGE and clownshoe government advisors. This isn't just a one-off, everyone makes mistakes in a crisis moment: there needs to be accountability for unelected advisors consistently getting it wrong and needlessly screwing up people's lives across the country as a result. We expect (though rarely get) this degree of responsibility among politicians: it's time that the public health brigade had their tenure revoked and grant funding cut off for making nonsense hysterical claims to advance their own careers.

Leitch meanwhile can go back to being the world's shitest dentist.

That's a lie. We were told back in December and January that the Kent variant was A COMPLETELY NEW VIRUS, remember.

Politicians aside as we know they are grubby fuckers, it's seriously unbelievable just how much misinformation and blatant falsehoods the public health advisors and epidemiologists have been allowed to pump out into the public domain over the last 16 months for people to either absorb and get scared about or parrot to others as fact.

Just shows you that you get snake oil salesmen in every single walk of life.
