Yes, this is something I've noticed myself recently so basically there's no investigative journalism but just punters doing copy and paste jobs and selling it as "news".

I fell victim to this relatively recently.  Many papers evidently rely heavily on the 'press reader', resulting in a series of inaccuracies which are the product of a journalistic game of Chinese whispers.

This really should've been played in England tbh. It isn't because no agreement on broadcasters and sponsors attending from amber/red listed countries could be made as the Government wouldn't budge.

I don't know how as people on Twitter assure us thousands of people are pouring through UK airports everyday unchecked and are bringing the virus in.

Have Portugal finally lifted their ban on UK entrance and announced their entry rules as they hadn't up to now. Might be special dispensation for this game maybe ?

Nothing I've seen but I'd assume the Portuguese authorities were consulted in all this and agreed to let fans in from the UK.  They'll have had to let delegates/sponsors broadcasters in from all over the world (i.e. higher risk countries) so allowing a few thousand from the UK should be low risk.

It's outdoors where transmission is basically non-existent, there is zero pressure on the NHS due to covid, football fans have been locked out all season and it's their first title in a decade, most of which they spent as a laughing stock. I struggle to get too excited about folk having their day outside. I'll avoid the city centre on Saturday.
My take had nothing to do with public health. There is simply no need to march through the city to the main city square on a Saturday even more so when they have already celebrated in that fashion. What's wrong with celebrating in Ibrox ?

I don't know, I'm not head of "The Union Bears" so I wasn't involved in organising it.

The whole point is they want people to be annoyed at it. We're best off ignoring it and leaving them to it.

Need to get a move on, must be going to announce something as they can't enter as it stands.

That’s an old book now... a lot has changed since it was published.
The big change is that vast quantities of why you read now - especially online - is written by very inexperienced reporters almost straight out of uni with very little real supervision or editing process. The number of experienced people still working in newspapers has been decimated with overall head counts down and experienced staff understandably leaving to take far better pay and conditions working in PR and corporate comms and the like - or just leaving the profession altogether (as I did!).

So it’s even worse now than in the book?

I'm not into conspiracies but this seems reasonable.

We already know that most of this is being driven by behavioural advisors rather than any actual science and has been since last year when Cummings (I think) talked about it.

Yeah I don't think there's any conspiracy here.

They have/had a situation where they had laws/regulations that couldn't be enforced, other than closing down businesses. It's therefore reasonable to assume they've used every media tool they can think of to maximise compliance.

Pretty much. I think thats why some countries chose to ban outdoor exercise outright and only allowed people out for very specific reasons ( ones which could actually be challenged by police and confirmed)
Not because going out for a walk spread covid but because the more exemptions you allow , the more the pish gets taken

Right kick in the teeth for Leitch with those figures.

That case positivity is good, because it looked like mabe it was heading upwards. And clearly, hospital numbers continue to have cigar smoke blown in their faces
