Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Just out of interest, how many folks here have actually been tested for Covid during this whole pandemic ?

The reason I ask is that virtually nobody I know (including myself) have ever had a test and just wondered if that was the same across the board ?? Having said that, I've never felt unwell so no need to be getting a test and I certainly wouldn't be getting one if I had a few sniffles, especially in the Summer, given that I've got pretty bad hay fever.

We appear to put great faith in "the stats" but surely they don't tell anything like the true story especially when so many show no symptoms.

The point I'd again make, is that the ONLY stats worth bothering about are the amount of people in hospital, the amount in ICU and the amount then dying as the rest is really just a rough guide as to community transmission and really means nothing if a "bad cold" is going to be the normal outcome of contracting this virus.

As others have said, things have moved on, we're not India and we have the majority of the country vaccinated including all of those deemed as vulnerable so I'm now at the stage where I've no idea what the "end game" is likely to be as surely we can't be living half a life for the next 10 years, 20 years or even indefinitely......

Had to get a Covid test a few days before my throat biopsy just before Christmas and came back negative. .

I've not been tested for COVID but I did do an antibody blood test as part of a research study.

It came back negative, but I can't decide If that's a good thing or not.

I've been tested once and it wasn't in the UK. Was tested in Germany coming off a flight in September and at no other time in the pandemic.

I’ve had recent lateral flow tests in order to visit my Dad in his Care Home. All negative this far. Two relatives who have had Covid. One in 70s with poor chronic health who died and one in 40s(healthcare professional and very fit) who was very unwell for 10 days but now fully recovered.

I got tested because I felt a bit feverish and my temp was "over the limit". Came back "probably negative". Turned out to be an infection.

Several family members have been tested because of contact with a positive case. Some were positive and some negative. All of these occurred during the winter spike, when case numbers, hospitalisations and deaths were much higher. Haven't heard of anyone needing to be tested since late February.

Jeezo. Reading this has actually made me quite annoyed. Denying people treatment in this way isn't acceptable.

Like I said, it depends on the procedure. If they are in about your blood, or down your throat /in your mouth/up your nose then that's an extremely high infection risk.

Aye it’s open surgery on my leg so understand about the testing but was phoned on the 16th April and told to isolate from the 18th to the 28th for my procedure.

2 days notice to get 3 weeks off work.

So, do we reckon there's any chance of Glasgow now having to remain in level 3 for another wee while?

There has been some chat about this happening in Moray, which admittedly has far higher numbers at present, but it's difficult to see Glasgow's numbers falling in the short term, is it not?

'No evidence' Pfizer jab needs updating for variants

There is no evidence the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine needs updating to protect against Covid-19 variants, BioNTech has said.

"To date, there is no evidence that an adaptation of BioNTech's current Covid-19 vaccine against key identified emerging variants is necessary," the German firm said in its financial and company update report.

However, the company said it had developed a "comprehensive strategy" to address any coronavirus variants in the future should the need arise.

It comes after laboratory results and real-life data suggested the vaccine can protect against catching the Covid variants currently in circulation, although less effectively when it comes to some, such as the South African variant.

The UK government has ordered an extra 60 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine as part of its plans for a vaccination booster programme this autumn.

It is thought that the most vulnerable groups of people, including the elderly, will be offered another jab before next winter.

I got double-Pfizered thanks to being a "frontline" worker and have to do lateral flow tests twice a week as a work requirement. All have been negative so far.

If I tested positive I'd have to take two weeks off work to isolate and a mammoth order from Honest Brew would be placed to get me through two agonising weeks of beer and telly and generally sitting around doing nothing constructive. So obviously, I'm dreading getting a positive test...

I've been to see specialists and had scans etc without testing but have been told I will be tested ahead of day surgery that I'm on a waiting list for.
Same for me, been to various appointments over the last few months, only time I was tested was last Wednesday ahead of going in for day surgery on the Friday.

Interesting to look at the hospital numbers back in the summer, they basically dropped to ~250 with a handful in ICU and stayed there during August. Once the methodology changed on 11th September it was 45/6 before slowing creeping back up. We're getting close to those numbers, though of course we have more cases now (~180) than we had at the end of August (~85, 2 weeks before the hospital numbers).

I might end up so comatose from the bev in Poland in August/September that I might not need to care if they're still requiring a test upon return. greggy.png

I had my heart set on the Sandwich islands or maybe a trip down to see the Penguins in Port Stanley.

I'm sure if you mix the Tyskie, Soplica and Wyborowa it destroys the Covid and if it doesn't you'll not remember anything about it anyway, well, i know i haven't in the past !!

Excuse me but we just don't know...

Its pleasing that we have reached the point where policy is quietly, but clearly diverging from the daily mewling that the media still seems to be indulging.

An interesting one for the general direction of travel here... Masks expected to be binned for secondary schools in England as of the 17th.

They absolutely know this is over. Lets just speed it up a bit ffs

Things should be back to normal now. The elderly and vulnerable are double dosed, absolutely no need for these restrictions to continue even a day longer, let alone weeks/months. Just wait for a "varient" to conveniently appear so the likes of Devi and JL can preach to us for that bit longer
