Why was India not put on the red list as soon as cases sky rocketed there? Has nothing been learned in the last 13 months?

BJ also bleating on about how we're certain to have a third wave. Obviously just a rouse to implement vaccine passports. Who the hell cares if those outwith the elderly and vulnerable get a cough for a few days and have to lie low? This charade needs ended

You’re missing a gif underneath though, so if you are taking on this mantle, please try harder.

Boris was supposed to be going there on some kind of trade mission I think.  Trumps anything like actual public health.

I'm not going to get annoyed at this because it will more than likely play out differently, but I'll add it to the list of things that will almost certainly happen within weeks of England ditching it.
That their hand will be forced on this is good for the general public, but the impact this will have on venues who would be banking on events being allowed in Q3/Q4 in order to generate much needed revenue will be considerable.
No point suddenly going "good news, guys, you can hold events now" if that kind of advice is being given to event organisers just now, as they will plan online things instead, and the venues will be left empty later in the year.
If it wasn't as potentially catastrophic to the future of so many venues, the SG's apparant inability to think mid-long term would be amusing.
I can't believe there is anyone within the SG who actually believes that keeping SD in place until 2022 is either necessary or viable, so drop the "we just don't know" act and give these businesses a chance at surviving once the Covid Relief rug is pulled from under their feet.
Summer Nights at Kelvingrove Bandstand in July cancelled today due to distancing, we have concert tickets for September but I'm beginning to think it will be money back or rescheduled. We were told it was all about protecting the NHS which has been done and now the goalposts seem to be moving and too many people don't seem that bothered.

Yep, theyre starting to grossly overstep this now but because they are doing it with a smile and telling people its all for the greater good the compliant media and public are blindly accepting it.

I'm honestly suprised the media are still complying. Usually in big news stories there comes a turning point and the media start questioning things. Sadly not this time

The Daily Mail seem to be having a go at it, which just makes it look like a right wing narrative and makes it easier for lockdown fans to scoff at anyone who asks questions.

I genuinely think people just don't understand that travel companies and event organisers can't just mothball for a couple of years then return as if nothing happened. Keeping them afloat with grants or loans isn't enough - these organisations need to be making a profit.

The whole "awch I don't mind waiting another year just in case. Better to be safe and we can go next year. Can't go if you are dead lol" mentality is severly flawed.

I think more than a few people are going to be in for a shock at what simply doesn't return in 2022 if they don't happen this year.

Affordable holidays / city breaks and events are going to be two of the the things that those same people will be moaning about missing out on next year if the SG don't give an indication soon that they can happen this year.

And they will blame everyone apart from the SG.

The SG should be focusing on what the data and evidence tell them is going to happen, we could spend forever having hypotheticals, the virus will mutate so plan for how to react for that, absolutely, but the fear has taken over them now. For me NS looks absolutely drained, i think being essentially the only competent senior politician in government has meant shes spreading herself thin and relying on shite advice.
Its quite alarming the number of people who shout down quite well intentioned questions or criticism of the SG slow paced actions with the ‘oh youre doing great Nicola, just you ignore these bad people’ stuff or the ‘dont ever allow anything fun ever again types’ on social media. Despite NS promising an adult discussion ive never ever seen her engage anything other than supporters on social media. The damage to lots of sectors is absolutely clear now.

Think there's quite a lot of truth in what you're saying there. This is all just another example of the polarised society we live in now.

Indyref...brexit...BLM, you name it. Any subtlety or nuance in social/political issues is out the window these days and every issue is seen as a zero sum game. If you openly question SG policies your labelled as a right wing 'yoon', even if you've voted SNP all your adult life, and if you defend them you get labelled as a dangerous separatist/socialist.

The best solution going forward lies somewhere between the extremes and questioning one course of action doesn't automatically make you an extremist of the opposite view. The Scottish government probably handled the initial months better (but not great) but is now in danger of being so dogmatic/scared of making a decision that could it bollocks our economy and society for years to come.  If you're pro indy (as I am) then you might be concerned that a buggered economy could scupper that chance, doesn't automatically make you a Tory.
