Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Recommended Posts

It is good that despite a very clearly lesser lock down with schools remaining open, numbers of a MoRe DeAdLy StRaIn!!!! Continue to drop. If only we could establish that the vaccines are having some effect on this. We just don't know though, so the safest thing to do is to credit this progress to people not being able to consume alcoholic beverages in a public setting.

Barbers opened at the beginning of the week so it's inevitable that numbers will SKYROCKET before long.

The country with the current worst rate of cases and deaths per citizen at the moment is Uruguay. They basically had zero covid the first time around. They have prioritised the economy and are banking on riding it out via vaccination. Be interesting to watch as they do have a half decent vaccination program.

2 passages

Uruguay now ranks number one in the world by one measure of infections with 6,071 new cases per one million people in the last week, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. About 86 percent of the 1,275 Covid fatalities reported since the start are from this year with a spate of nursing home deaths in recent weeks, including more than 20 in one home alone. The proliferation of the more infectious P1 strain from Brazil isn’t helping.

President Lacalle Pou this week extended measures through the end of April when the government’s vaccine programme might begin to show the first results. A fervent believer in personal freedom – the first conservative to hold the office in 15 years – he said he wouldn’t turn his country into a “a police state” by declaring a hard lockdown.

Having walked a considerable distance yesterday and seen every play park rammed with nil social distancing, nil masks etc its abundantly clear that the population have said f**k it to restrictions.
The SG et al can kid on to their hearts content that Having everything shut is somehow making a difference, its not people are doing what they want to try and make life as tolerable as it can be.
The fact that there are 20 cases in ITU, there are  areas of the country where there are no cases  but alas you cannot play indoor sport, can't go to the pub, can't have a meal in a restaurant, can't have people round your house, can't go to football, can't visit a museum, can't go to a castle etc etc is absolutely laughable.   Vaccines anyone, hello ffs.
So yes quite rightly people are saying f**k it, enough is enough, get these nonsensical restrictions in the bin where they belong.
I'd suggest you go where the hell you want.
This. Get the pubs open.

0.3% of the population have been vaccinated.  We don't have many jags to hand out, we never signed up to the WHO vaccination program, our government was too proud for a handout, we will go it alone.

ASEAN are not doing very well at the jagging game.

Seems as though there is quite a bit of fear of getting jagged in rural Chaiyaphum. There is  a story circulating of 2 monks dying after getting the  vaccine. Don't know of this has happened or just scaremongering. A few Covid cases in the area now, can only see it increasing over Songkran.

Thailand just had it's highest daily numbers today.  967

They are saying it's the UK variant.  Next week is our New Year and millions of people are on the move, the Government have not put a ban to this, in fact encouraged the travel to stimulate the economy.

Some hospitals in Bangkok are refusing to test people as is the policy if they are found positive they then MUST accommodate that person in that hospital, no going home, in this country, therefore the Government/Army are setting up 10,000 field hospitals, yes this is correct 10,000 hospitals all over the country.

Things are going to get bumpy.

and as I type this, there is the first of many family members just arrived from Bangkok.  Well, it was nice knowing you all.😟

I know of 1 monk in Bangkok that died a few hours after his first jag, it was all over the news, he wasn't too healthy in the first place.

They have been flip flopping all over the place with the vaccine rollout, delays (as with everything), age groups, who to receive, which I don't have clue how it works apart from when they find a cluster they vaccinate the people near that destination.

Fighting amongst the health service of which provinces get what supply, and then the private healthcare and their deals...  It's it will just become a free(not free) for all very soon, as in who pays the highest gets quicker and the poorer/rural (me) just have to sit it out if they ever get vaccinated.  Also, only Thais been offered the vaccine as yet.

Aye, seen some private health provider has secured 1 million doses. That will be the wealthy getting sorted. Also read they are going to get Phuket vaccinated first so they can open it up to vaccinated tourists. I'll be double dosed by late May but will hold off getting flight as I don't fancy getting told to go visit Phuket or Pattaya and if they get a surge in numbers no point visiting if in a hard lockdown

Edit - probably the same Monk and the story has grown arms and legs.

Daily Cases Update:  Another stonking day all round for the UK as rates drop to 30.7. In Scotland another great 6% drop takes us to 38.2. I wonder if rates are dropping so low in Northern Ireland as they are all to busy rioting as opposed to taking Rona tests. What a 3rd world country.

Highlands with only 13.1 cases per 100K bizarrely has the current most dangerous place in Scotland within Inverness Merkinch. I suspect any teuchters on here can confirm it is the slummy part of the fine city.

Special mention for all parts of Renfrewshire, Angus and Edinburgh City who all had particularly good days.

It is indeed scummy, but I believe this particular outbreak is linked to a school.

On hospital/ICU numbers, was told last night that for the first time since Feb/March 2020, Raigmore Hospital is now COVID-free. The COVID ITU is completely empty. Let’s hope it continues!

Maybe not for long as Inverness now has Scotland's most dangerous neighbourhood.
