Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Recommended Posts

A set of very good infographics here, summarising why the advice was to pause AZ in under 30 age group. Still important note that the risk is being compared between serious side-effect of the vaccine and risk of ICU admission. It doesn't include risk of things like severe Covid not requiring ICU admission and long-term complications of Covid.

Sadly, 'up to 25% capacity' at Hampden is tragic and will feel like a League Cup semi-final. In reality, there's no reason for it not to be packed to the rafters. Them allowing a token gesture in, masked and spaced out, is only because it would have been a disastrous look for the Scottish Government if they didn't acquiesce to UEFA forcing their hand on the matter.

Wednesday 7 April 2021

The Scottish FA and Glasgow Life (on behalf of Glasgow City Council) have been working on a range of planning scenarios for hosting the four UEFA EURO 2020 matches in Glasgow in response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, both in terms of allowing spectators in the stadium and the creation of a Fan Zone in the city for the duration of the tournament.

Following extensive consultation with the Scottish Government and public health advisers, the Local Organising Structure can confirm that it has submitted details of its preferred option for admitting spectators to the stadium to meet today’s UEFA deadline.

We are delighted that the Scottish Government has given approval to allow spectators up to 25% of the stadium capacity (approximately 12,000 - based on the UEFA EURO 2020 venue overlay and seating configuration) for each of the four games to be staged at Hampden Park.

Naturally, this will be subject to continued progress with reducing the prevalence of the virus and the roll-out of the vaccination programme.

A decision on the Fan Zone in the city will be made at the end of the month.

Well worth all the tears and snotters on here last month then. Shocked tbh

You'd hope that that would also apply to the start of the domestic season in July as an absolute minimum. Not that I think that that's necessarily right, but given the over-cautious attitude of the SG  it may be realistic.  Off the top of my head, 25% capacity in grounds probably wouldn't affect that many clubs outside the Premiership significantly.  Still shite though.

The virologist account Devi blocked for calling out her bluster was called "Mac n Chise" - the woman's name is Chise, she shares a huge amount of complex data and she goes anonymous simply because of the sheer amount of abuse she gets, so as much as it'd be convenient if it was some gammon called Tony behind it, it's not the case.

Devi didn't fancy listening because she didn't like her "the vaccine doesn't work against the SA variant" nonsense being called out based on facts and data.

Given the CMO was booted for undermining the lockdown message last March, Devi should have been booted for undermining the vaccine. Its an absolute disgrace but unsurprising in the day and age of today’s politics.

12,000 fans in a stadium in a city where over 50% will be vaccinated and all of the at risk groups fully vaccinated is an absolute farce, our ‘everything England do but two weeks behind approach’ is baws.

It's 12k more than most folk were predicting a few weeks ago I suppose. With 25k tickets already sold for each game god knows how this will pan out. Interesting to see bar Russia no one offering more than 25% for group stage games of those going public so far (not see England plan yet).

This isn’t quite the win you think it is. There probably should be more tears and snotters after this. 25% capacity in over two months time with numbers as they currently are now is frankly ludicrous.

Aye its more than some folk thought on here, but given the vaccination rates, case rates, evidence of minimal transmission in outdoor open settings then 50% is the very least they should be aiming for.

Even worse when the Euros are over, and that 25% that should have become the floor, becomes the ceiling, or worse, gets booted into touch as football fans and clubs take another shelling

I think the door is still open to up it until at least the 28 April. If other hosts did up there's there might be leverage I suppose. Interesting they haven't ruled out fan zones which will surely be more albeit minimal risk.

There's times for test events. We already know thousands of people can mingle outside Hampden or anywhere else outside in close quarters with no issues. Why not run a test to get 50% in and out of Hampden in an orderly fashion? I know folk will just genreically shout back "TRANSPORT!!" but really, whats the risk increase really likely to be between 25% and 50%? Or even go extreme, what is the multiplication of risk really going to be at capacity?

There will be no going back once the dam has burst so to speak, why would they unless numbers go badly in the wrong direction which is unlikely with vaccination.

I'm not saying any of the numbers to do with covid will go wrong, I am saying the SNPs anti football fan rhetoric will result in further naughty stepping for us
