It did, however show that there is a desire to get to normal. Maybe not quite by June 21st, but the desire is there, and the plan is to use our tools, including vaccines, to get there. Elimination is not the strategy as it's futile and destructive. The trade off is that some people will get ill and die over subsequent winters, as they do from many other respiratory viruses. The explanation was frank.

NS's "we need to get cases right down and keep them there" and "no foreign travel for some time to get a bit more domestic normality" is a very different message.

Something has to give.

You're still not getting it, are you? It showed, yet again, that Johnson will say or do anything to make people like him. Like him now.  Nothing more, nothing less. That is literally all that matters to him. No concern for tomorrow, or the consequences of his bullshit. Not dead peasants, not a wrecked economy that he will be insulated from. No, does everybody still love cuddly, tousled ol' Bojo?

Time after fucking time this lying sack of shit has deceived the electorate, and the media continues to give him a free fucking pass. Seriously, what the fúck is going on?

Why are you so triggered by this.

Of course people want normality. And now, with the vaccine in our arsenal, it should be the only stated and accepted end goal.

You should save your anger and direct it at NS if she doesn't say that is what she is aiming for IMO.

If BJ really was only interested in making people like him then his plan would have been less drawn out.

NS is equally guilty of wanting people to like her btw, hence the constant need to be different to be viewed as "caring more"

Oh, I've been banging the drum for HMPPS staff, don't you worry!  Weirdly, the customers are at far more risk from staff than vice versa. If a prisoner tests positive - or even becomes symptomatic, they're immediately isolated. Those ensuite rooms are bloody handy if you want a bit of Wuhan-lite. Prison outbreaks, by the very nature of the locale, have been dealt with pretty well, the occasional outbreak among staff notwithstanding.

There are, though, about twenty times as many teachers in the country, even before we get to dinner ladies, TAs, etc. With a fortnight's notice, it shouldn't be too hard to mount a concerted effort to ensure that the reopening of schools is as safe as possible. It's the first step of this recovery plan - surely we should be implementing any and all measures which might increase the prospect of success?

I had to highlight  this mate.  Your colleagues at HMP Kilmarnock did a fine job in keeping it down to a few hundred cases.

Are there actually any countries that are entirely self-sufficient, and could (theoretically) close their borders and cut off all contact with the outside world for an indefinite period of time?

China, as long as they can sell stuff.

I'm pretty sure D&G moved down a tier as Stranraer had fans back for one game

A strange reason imo.

There's been discussions on opening barbers early/mid-March in Wales alongside some other non-essential shops. Can't see this impacting NS's roadmap at all though, especially given nothing has been confirmed.

I was holding off doing the #2 all over until yesterday's announcement, may have to take the plunge this week.

Seeing the English timeframe yesterday, I finally bit the bullet and gave myself a #8 all over to eradicate the crazy professor look (had clippers already, but had been feart of using them as I do occasionally venture outside the house, and yesterday was too warm for a hat).

Surprisingly happy with the result, although it means I'll have to add 'barber' to my CV now, which might upset the layout.

"Deprive me of things that make life worth living for longer so I can amuse myself at others being annoyed at this" is a very odd outlook tbh.

As what I want to happen has no influence on any decisions to potentially deprive me of things I enjoy, seeing people go full Alan Brazil because they can get a pint two weeks later than those in England will provide some light relief.

Just realised my vaccine appointment clashes with Nicola.

Hopefully by the time I get home this thread will be full of excitement after the Scottish Government decides to just go mental and open everything up by the end of the April...

I'm angry because the Government of this country has seen a global pandemic as an opportunity for profit.

I'm angry because the Prime Minister was responsible for tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths because one of his scriptwriters had come uo with a weak gag he wanted to see on the Mail front page.

I'm angry because the Health Secretary has been found guilty in the high court of acting unlawfully, and says he won't resign. And the media shrug thir shoulders and move on to what Harry 'n' Megan are up to.

I'm angry because a massive court decision has handed some rights to Uber drivers (and by extension a shitload of other "gig economy" workers) and not one mainstream outlet  has attempted to open a debate about what this is going to mean for employment and the future of the economy. Mainly, I think, because the concept of workers getting some rights which should be undeniable may mean the companies relying on them can no longer make profits, therefore rendering them ex-workers is seen as a bit complex.

I'm angry because the whole system is crashing about our ears, and the Government has no clue, idea or desire to anything about it.

I'm angry because there's more concern about haircuts, football and schools than there is about the collapse of our entire society.

And finally, I'm angry because the majority of posters on here are more concerned with point-scoring than they are about the real-life catastrophe looming over the horizon.

In fairness, staggering levels of incompetence have a fair bit to do with it as well. You realise they've managed to fúck the economy as well, don't you?

At least HS2 and the trident replacement haven't been cancelled. I was worried for a bit, there.

They thought that it would all blow over and kept the economy going until our hospitals were nearly overwhelmed.

I feel that rather than incompetence it was designed. There was a bit of incompetence but to say that mass gatherings were fine, scientific advisers said so was probably down to them being controlled. The tories also shat it when London was effected. Its their economic base. They're now doing the same again, overpromising and getting hopes up. This could backfire and lead to busineses planning again only to be told no later on. But who cares, money has changed hands. Short term stupid thinking.

I hate to come over all socialist on you, but Bowhouse is a profit centre operated by Serco. Landing staff? Colleagues. Decision-making managers? Not so much. We've seen the same happen down here.

We've had some sites in E&W which have seen three figure numbers, but considering the one thing any virus does when it gets behind a Prison wall is ricochet around all the residents and workers, the Prison Service has somehow done very well throughout this whole mess.

Ad Lib's stuff over the last few days is absolute top notch wummery. Had a few posters seething without really overplaying his hand and making it too obvious.

going to have to agree with this. Specially re not overplaying. The whole thing has confused me immensely:lol: Specially considering I instigated the whole thing by asking him about the legal opinion on mandatory vaccines!
