I would say it looked about right depends what NI and Wales got.

Poland was like 27% in favour. I think countries and it's citizens might face restrictions but agree it won't be down to granular levels of individual passports

It was in London I think but moved pretty quickly after the vote. I don't know why the EU didn't leave it up to individual countries to certify it which they will be doing anyway.

Sorry, I was meaning the UK (as a whole) was getting more than maybe they should, in relation to some of the poorer countries. That's just what I've heard intimated and was why they demanded the figures be taken down as were supposedly furious about it.

Hancock is a stooge that has absolutely no idea he is a stooge.

And here we are again, this time congratulating the people of West Suffolk on getting up out the house and actively voting for Matt Hancock since 2010. Reptiles.

Hancock is the only person in the UK who hasn't realised that the only reason he's still in a job is that, when the excrement/ventilation situation requires a sacrifice, it sure as fúck isn't going to be Johnson, Gove, or The Prittster.

ETA: West Suffolk - population of about 75k, and four surnames. Feudal bloody society with the "Sport of Kings" basically pulling all the strings.

This, and the comparison made with New Zealand, show exactly how venal and deperately incompetent this fúcking circus in Government are. Where there are examples all over the world (with the glaring exceptions of USA, Brazil, Belarus and , er, UK) of Governments taking prompt , difficult decisions which prioritise the fight against this virus, Johnson has, at every step, asked himself, "How will this look on the front page of the Mail?". It has been played all the way along as political theatre and a PR exercise - "world beating", "Project Moonshot", "clap for fucking heroes*" Uncle fucking Tom and all. Meanwhile, the death toll continues to rise as the media reports the UKG taking prompt action by banning flights from a select few countries TEN FUCKING MONTHS after they should have imposed at least rigorous border checks if not a complete ban.

Some of my mates, ribbing me due to my left-leaning politics (or common human decency, as I see it) asked me, laughing, "well, what would Corbyn have done?" The answer to which question is, simply, he (or whoever led a Labour Government) would have dealt with this as a Public Health Crisis, not as an endless procession of profit opportunities. Labour may well have fúcked things up, but they wouldn't have done so because RLB's cousin was churning out hooky PPE from a shed in Eccles, or because Ian Lavery knew a guy who reckoned he could run a T&T system on Excel from his laptop.

What the fúck is it going to take for the GBP to get with the torches and pitchforks?

*Apparently, I am one of these "heroes". Well, with the greatest of respect, FB Maws, shove your applause up your arse and vote for a party who won't cut your "heroes" pay and conditions. If you could do that, that would be nice. xo

Yeah the optics are more important than the reality and suckers buy into it.  Where else in the world have we seen that?*

* Rhetorical question; responses not required.

Coronavirus in Scotland: No prosecco drinking with neighbours in gardens

Scottish ministers have warned people not to drink in a neighbour’s garden after new Covid regulations came into force banning outdoor alcohol consumption.

MSPs were also told that people should not go out to “mill about” in shops and only leave home for essential reasons.

At Holyrood’s Covid committee on Thursday, Constitution Secretary Mike Russell was asked by Scottish Liberal Democrat Alex Cole-Hamilton if the drinking ban was “a prohibition on all drinking outdoors ... for example if, as we’re allowed to do, we can meet one other person in their garden, you couldn’t have a glass of wine with that person … how far does the prohibition go?”

Mr Russell said “socialisation” should not be encouraged and would “strongly counsel against” a “one-to-one party in your garden”.

Ffs better get the parasol and bbq put away

Sridhar is clearly panicking about the early results in Israel looking like the end of the limelight for her.

Some of the scientific advisers (I’ll name drop Chris Whitty as one I particularly have in mind, but there are others) are clearly desperate for this all to end so they can just get themselves out of the limelight and live in peace.

Others like Sridhar are terrified of the day that their names don’t make the papers anymore.

Great stuff for a Friday afternoon - a Johnson press conference.

Let's see how can ruin what will alrwsdy be a shite weekend further.

He should identify the town that the Brazil case is in and properly lock it down over the weekend to start with. Because if it takes hold we are back to the start and I don't think he will get any public buy in.

No we aren't.

Reduced effectiveness of the vaccinations seems to be the case in Brazil. If they are only 50% effective we won't get the buy in of enough people to return to anything more than the summer relaxations.

How exactly are we back to the start? What makes this variant different from the Kent variant, the South African variant or any one of the other thousands of variants which are likely to be floating about?

Vaccine efficiency. Just now it's a route out of this mess take it away and we are back to lurching from lockdown to lockdown as we wait and see what we fancy trying next.

Maybe noone allowed out unless they have shorts on or some other madness. Closing the border to everything other than good would seem sensible but we have all been waiting for that since March.

You don't even need to close the border. You just need to enforce quarantines at local quarantine centres around the airports.

I'm sure every major airport has a hotel next to it that is doing f**k all at the minute.

I think that the Chinese Sinovac vaccine has been trialed in Brazil and found to only be 50% effective but that's obviously only one vaccine and there's nothing I've found to suggest that the AZ, Pfizer etc. vaccines will be any less effective.

This was the sensible thing to do. I've not even seen a reversal to "high value travellers" not having to comply.

It was the Chinese one that seems to be effective to original Covid strain or a less mutated version. If it's dropped nearly 30% efficiency that has to be a worry, combined with the mass graves Brazil have been filling since that start of the pandemic it's a worry to see that strain enter UK circulation.
