The Government appear to be doing nothing much in terms of financial assistance. For example the controversial Universal Credit minimum income floor returns in 2 weeks. That's going to be catastrophic for a lot of self-employed folk. Telt ya

DeeTillEhDeh
If there are financials to support it you would think. Called it.

They'll have to - we may have businesses closing because the supply chain is broken.

ICTChris
Extension of furlough until December. Not sure if that’ll change anything up here? I can see this being used to justify a nationwide lockdown up here.

Not so sure - binning tiers before they have even come in - just don't think politically it's the right thing to do.In any case our infection trend seems to have plateaued and is beginning to fall - go with tiers - if that still does not work then lockdown at that point.

The SG might have taken a different approach had they known the financial support would still be available.

MP_MFC
I'm just glad that the UK gov has decided to follow the Swedish model. The extension of furlough is a biggy, if only someone had suggested this to the Tories before like, over the last few months, we might have been able to avoid this.

I hope they don’t as I think the tiers are sensible up here, you do have a lot of places with low infection rates where it would be better for things to stay open if they can. If they have money for furlough, then they can use it in areas where business needs to close.
super_carson
IF NS was to put us in a lockdown, it would add weight to the argument from her critics that she does what England does and "Boris is in charge". It would be an opportunity for the devolved governments to prove their earlier action was justified and effective. Before someone says "oH bUt SwEdEn.." and shows me a graph, I'm talking about the appearance to the relative populations. For example, the mini lockdowns in Wales and NI, as well as the restrictions in Scotland, look like they are having the desired effect. As much as they are crap, they are preferable to a longer term lockdown. Being able to keep at least some of the country going while suppressing the spread of the virus would be very popular in comparison to England.

Could depend on whether Boris makes it conditional on Scotland following the same blanket lockdown rules. If so I'd be interested to know what @Todd_is_God suggests? Take the money or keep the local targeting? Or throw away the masks and dance into a brave new world, naked?
