Coronavirus (COVID-19)

In that analogy with infections running at an estimated 100k a day in England per today's update and potentially only 18.5m left to infect, in 6 months there would be 100% infection / immunity which is surely nonsense.

ETA and that's with current measures !

A fair point, however I would suggest that an steady rate of infections for a period of 6 months is equally unrealistic.

An ITK relative said last night that the SG wanted to put Lanarkshire in 4 but were extremely worried that the restrictions wouldn't have any impact on hospitalisation or death trends which would undermine placing the rest of the country in them.

IE if Lanarkshire in level 4 is worse than Edinburgh in level 3 it's impossible to justify upgrading Edinburgh.

Basically we all need to go in together so that there's no way to argue against it.

Scrolling through Twitter and there's a lot of people who seem genuinely raging that Lanarkshire hasn't been placed into level 4. Being put into level 3 obviously means a lot of businesses can remain open and people can earn a livelihood (for the time being).

We're all in this together though, eh?

I'm more astonished that, having taken over 2 months to allow people to visit a friend's garden following a pretty much full lockdown in the spring, that NS expects anyone to believe that closing a few bars and restaurants will achieve anything, in a short time-frame, in winter.

'Hiding' behind the excuse that other countries are doing it too doesn't really cut it.

It's the same with people in Perth, Angus and Fife who work and shop in Dundee being raging earlier in the week that their areas were potentially being 'dragged' into Tier 3 with the big, bad city.

The "stay safe" #bekind, rainbows in the window nauseating platitudes ended in April with selfishness now at an even higher level than before.

...which kind of suggests that they ken fine well that this is all about being seen to do something while at the same time not doing something that could rebound on them in popularity terms like closing down schools and workplaces. Key for them probably is waiting for new case numbers to peak as the epidemic wave runs out of steam and then claiming that was because of the measures they imposed.

It is incredibly easy to mouth off demanding tighter restrictions elsewhere when it’s someone else’s livelihood or mental health at stake.
