How bad is the covid test?

Asking for a friend...

Who has the same name as me...

Looks like me....

Okay it’s for me

My missus has been tested 3 times. Her only comment was "If you're given the choice, take it in the mouth and not up the nose".

Funnily enough she isn't as forthcoming when I have made similar suggestions in the past.

Smallpox isn't prevalent all over the country - I may eventually turn out to be in a minority on this issue but if a vaccine is considered to be potentially more harmful than beneficial to give to over 50% of the population then I'd say you'd be better off waiting till a safe(ish) vaccine is available. A vaccine with that level of efficacy will likely be a hard sell to many of those eligible.

It clearly isn’t because the vaccine could cause harm that they wouldn’t vaccinate the whole population. This is how misinformation spreads.

It’s a) because not everyone is equally affected by Covid and b)because vaccinating every single person in the country with two jabs a week apart will take forever. You don’t need to vaccinate everyone for population immunity - kids in Scotland since about 2005 haven’t received a TB jab, but TB is eradicated in Scotland.

Vaccinate the vulnerable and clinically important, and once that’s done normality virtually arrives. If there’s more doses then sure fire it into the population that doesn’t really need it, but chances are the virus will die out on its own in any case.

It isn’t because it ‘isn’t safe’. We’re all sacrificing an entire year of our lives and crashing our economies for the elderly and vulnerable populations. We aren’t suddenly going to fire chemicals into their veins to bump them off.

I take it Public Health England are using the same IT system as Dundee FC?

One report I read said that the file was too big to be imported and from now on they are going to divide them in two. Another one was that the system is running on Excel and they reached the maximum number of columns.

Either way an absolute cluster.

Everyone ready for the excuse as to why there were 15k positive cases not uploaded to the dashboard over the last couple of days?

The file was too big. Yep, that's right - the file was too large. This is amateur stuff and, quite frankly, we deserve to be laughed at.

Large files will now be split in two to stop this happening again.

I mean seriously, the incompetence shown by this mob would see any normal person given their jotters about 20 f**k ups ago.

I assume we're still using Excel 95 or something?

About 1% of the population use shops like that in South East Asia.

Temperature scanning is more or less a waste of time anyway.

It's one of the main ways the white house ensured that neither trump nor any of his close contacts caught the virus.

There are like 16,000 columns in an Excel spreadsheet.

I'm calling BS on the 'too many columns' chat.

Depends on how they were entering the results (1 result per column) then yeah, it could be possible......but you would have to be woefully incompetent to have it set up like that....

(regardless.....using a spreadsheet software for a database is completely inappropriate)

Well then why did Ms. Bingham say it "“could cause them some freak harm”?

I'd have absolutely no problem if someone in power stood up and said "we know having schools open is a massive risk, but ultimately we need pupils to learn and we need parents back at work".

It's the whole 'the virus stops at the school gate' chat that I find absolutely baffling.

This is what the vast majority of people are saying and is why it’s so frustrating when it’s pointed out that schools are clearly a major factor in the spread, that people (especially on here) react with ‘SO WHAT DO YOU WANT?! THE SCHOOLS CLOSED?!!1!1!’.

No, just some honesty please that it’s been decided that it’s too important to keep them open despite the fact they are a major spreader.

They don’t call them the Tattie Holidays for nothing.

I've never heard them called that.

I suppose it depends on what part of the country you are brought up.

Well it may be a generational thing as it is certainly a well recognised term around these parts

I think it maybe is generational. I grew up in Perth and half the kids I was at school with had no idea what the tattie holidays were

I also grew up in Perth and back in the day (1950's) it was the tattie picking holidays as well as the berry picking.

I used tae pick the berries at Tarsappie Farm on the Rhynd road but tattie picking was usually reserved for the travelling folk and those from the ghettoes in Perth.

I hope they've all been tracked and traced...

That's a complete joke about the file size if true, really shows the complete incompetence of those running the system.

So what do we reckon they are going to recommend restriction wise?

I'll plump for a 'central belt' travel limit of up to 5 miles for GG&C, Lanarkshire and Lothian boards with hospitality to be takeaway only in these areas and no meeting of other households indoors or outdoors apart from childcare or usual exemptions.

For the rest of the country, travel into these areas for essential purposes only and takeaway hospitality only.

As of Friday

All hospitality closed with exception of takeaway

No households meeting indoors or outdoors

Travel restrictions of 5 miles

Non professional contact sport binned (eg fives)

Schools to remain open because our little cherubs couldn't possibly spread the virus

I reckon they might go full circuit breaker. Two weeks left with a few weeks left while we can utilise the furlough scheme before Scotland becomes fully at the UK governments mercy

- No socialising with any other household apart from childcare, adults who live alone and non cohabiting couples

- WFH if you can

- If not, still go to work if it’s open

- Pubs, restaurants, indoor leisure, indoor sports all to close

- Outdoor sports 6 people from 2 households only apart from professional sport

- Exercise as much as you want but only within 5 miles of home
