Coronavirus (COVID-19)

I really don't see it being like this for years. I'd imagine worst case will be that the most acceptable vaccine only treats so many they way they want it to and they'll be working on a better vaccine fore some time. At the same time treatment of COVID will also advance so it will become less deadly in that sense.

I'll be really surprised if this isn't being looked at as an endemic by Spring next year and dealt with like a flu by next Autumn

Does anyone else think that the chat now about potentially a 9 month wait till a widely available vaccine and a second full lockdown is maybe a use of behavioural science to try and get people who aren't wearing masks and practicing the recommended distancing by putting out there that there is a chance that this will go on longer if folks don't follow the guidlines?

I don't doubt that the vaccine is still some way off and the restrictions in place are probably more than needed but unless there is evidence shown that folks are self managing the situation then maybe the use of the fear factor is the way they've chosen to go?

I think it's relatively realistic.

The fault here ultimately rests with the politicians who assured us the restrictions were temporary, there was optimism for a virus at the end of 2020 and that the sacrifices we made in accepting would be rewarded and social distancing would be gone in November. All of these promises went well.

Why are you painting that as "reality" when there is literally nothing to point to that being the case? The entire world is working on treatments and vaccines, we are governed by people who have absolutely no intention of letting business and industry suffer more than they believe it absolutely needs to, and the population simply will not accept long term restrictions and the destruction of their way of life for a virus most people do not perceive as being all that risky.

What you are doing is literally fear mongering because your version of events (we live like this for years) makes absolutely no sense. Total Helen Lovejoy stuff.

Auld Lizzy not happy her staff won’t do a covid bubble for Christmas so she might need to stay at Windsor.

At 94 years old and with the second wave incoming, it seems ambitious for her to assume she will see Christmas

It's a shame Bob Hoskins died before twitter was a big thing, I think he'd have been good on it.

My kind of guy

18-24 months is the usual course of a pandemic.
People need to accept that life won't be the same for that period. Its not the end of the world just live differently and think of others instead of yourself.

A wee hint at things heading that direction perhaps, looking at the BBC Scotland news website just now.....Despite yesterday being the highest number of infections so far in the whole thing, they're leading with some story about 'Post Office Miscarriages of Justice', and some daft woman from Aberdeen who has loads of Eminem tattoos.

The less Coronavirus appears in the news, the less the general population will be conscious of it / bother with it. We're probably all a bit Corona-weary now, and eventually that will lead to us edging, bit-by-bit to a more normal way of life.
