Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Recommended Posts

Every country seems to start off with the largest population centre getting hit first then the cases flowing out. New York in the USA, London in the UK, Lombardy in Italy. From that perspective it makes sense that Glasgow is first here and Lanarkshire with extensive transport links to Glasgow is next.

As far as the rules go a large proportion are or have been regular drug users so it's hard to just switch to thinking you shouldn't do something because it's illegal. Also if you and your family or friends are fortunate enough to be in good health it's difficult to genuinely worry about Covid enough to cut social contact. If we lived in a country where the government actually did anything for the population there might be a bit more quid pro quo but that ship has sailed.

"Hello.  Is that the police?  This is Morag at number 32.  That's some bubble they've got at number 38. Think you better send in one of your zeppelin spotters there."

The police are ahead of you, they have a plant.

Anyone got any idea what the following actually means in practice? There is no further explanation, although the link to the new rules  on the SG only says very limited exemptions apply to childcare:-

“The rules will also not apply to couples who do not live together, or to tradespeople or for the provision of informal childcare - such as by grandparents.“

Could you therefore have close relations such as nephews / nieces in your house if you had to provide “informal” ie unpaid childcare from time to time?

Yes, IMO.

Edit to add - Probably intended so that parents can go to work, rather than engage in leisure activities, although it doesn't say that.

Aye, i noticed that.

We normally drop the kids off at the grandparents (who live 2 hours away) for a couple of nights during the school holidays.

Think i might still do this, but I'll have a think.

Bit more concerning however is when you look at the rate of change (rather than # per 100k)...

Data from Public Health England; NI Dept of Health; Public Health Scotland, for the seven days to 19 September 2020, compared with the seven days to 12 September 2020. Note: Scottish historic data only available by health board

... and people wonder why Scottish measures need to be harder hitting.

If you have very low numbers then one localised outbreak (like the 2 Sisters chicken factory) can make it look like the whole area has had a big rise.

I’m probably being dense here, but if in 3 weeks there’s some evidence of the virus being under control or cases going backwards, are they really going to turn around and just let us in each other’s households again right away?

Sturgeon waffling on a load of shite as well tbf. Just no daft wartime/churchill references from her.

Aye. Prime Time tv slot, every channel covering it and both failed to emphasise the rules and make sure everyone knows them. Instead went for their usual version of thanks and keep your head up.
