Neil Doncaster begs Nicola Sturgeon not to push nuclear button on Scottish football

Neil Doncaster has pleaded with Nicola Sturgeon not to shut Scottish football down in the event of another Covid-19 rule break.

And, in an exclusive interview with Record Sport, the SPFL chief executive warned that one more government issued postponement could have catastrophic financial consequences across the game which could force a number of our leading clubs out of existence.

Relationships between Hampden’s sixth floor and Holyrood have been strained since the high profile protocol breaches involving the Aberdeen Eight and Celtic full-back Boli Bolingoli - with the First Minister stressing that the professional game could be placed on pause if there are any further cases of non compliance.

As part of a behind the scenes plea bargain deal to avoid having the plug pulled on two complete rounds of top flight fixtures four matches involving Aberdeen and Celtic have already been postponed and must now be crammed into a schedule which is already at bursting point.

And Doncaster now insists any further punitive strikes could endanger the entire league season - shattering the new £30m a year broadcast deal with Sky TV and plunging all of Scotland’s 42 clubs into financial meltdown.

He said: “There is a very real possibility, were the Scottish government to decide to close down the entire league for any length of time - based on a very, very small number of infringements - that a number of our clubs will go under.

“This is not scare mongering - it’s real. Covid-19 has already wreaked havoc on the finances of the game and a lot of our clubs are in a very precarious position already.

“So any future government action really must be very carefully considered but also entirely proportionate. In my view it would be unjustifiable to shut down the league over a few isolated transgressions.

“It’s not just an issue for the top flight clubs it’s all 42 clubs across the country. They are all dependent on the money they get from the league, to a greater or lesser extent, and that is largely based upon the TV money that comes in from the Premiership.

“But all 42 clubs benefit from the TV money and if we find ourselves in a position where we cannot complete this season then we would have a huge issue, not just with TV revenue but with all revenues.”

Sounds a bit like an.... apocalypse 😱 😱 😱

When did Scoop start being pro Doncaster,  quite a turnaround.

Kingspark school: Dundee school closes after multiple cases of Covid-19 confirmed

Kingspark School in Dundee is to close for the rest of the week after a rise in the number of coronavirus cases in adults who are connected with the school.

Health bosses confirmed six adults have tested positive, and the school will now undergo a deep clean as a precautionary measure.

OK so we have six adults who all somehow managed to get the virus from somewhere or from the same person?

Either that or there is an unaccounted number of people carrying the virus in the area.

Or maybe they all knew the guy with the puppy.

It's not a typical school though. The kids there have physical or mental disabilities that are likely to cause staff to come in closer contact with pupils or other teachers than you would get at other schools.

Even just lifting a kid in and out of a chair etc will mean that you will have contacts with other people and surfaces that you won't get elsewhere.

Thae tests are pretty unpleasant, eh? Had to get one as the wee one developed a fever last night. Edinburgh Airport at 8am this morning. Hopefully get the results soon.

Before this year most of us never took the level of precautions we have now or gave it a second thought about what if I catch the flu and pass it on to someone vulnerable, it was just bad luck. This has all changed.

It's a thought that the measures put in place and the precautions many people take because of the COVID19 virus will affect the infection rates for other virus like the flu or common cold viruses that circulate around the population later on in the year, death rates from so called seasonal viruses could be down this winter for example.

Maybe, but they have been relatively very low the last two winters anyway, whereas this March - July was on a par with the winters of 99/00 & 17/18 which were relatively very severe.

It's more likely they will be relatively low again as a result of those most likely to die from those seasonal viruses having died during the Spring, than just the precautions and awareness alone.

I wonder what impact this will have on the number of confirmed flu cases this year, though. I imagine most youngish people who had the flu in previous years would have stayed in bed for however long it took to feel better than actually gone to get tested / diagnosed. I would imagine there will be a lot more people officially diagnosed with flu this year as people with the flu want to make sure it's not covid-19.

Few rumours going around the there will be a localised lockdown in North Perthshire covering Blairgowrie and Coupar Angus

I was hearing that there's the possibility of a localised lockdown in Falkirk covering Bainsford and Langlees.

About ten years too late, likes.
