Are they not just trying to keep classes as clean as possible to try and limit the spread if there is someone infected there? You can't seriously say that wiping down desks will have no effect other than "it's good PR"?

In his head, he probably can

Unless they plan on also wiping down every chair, wall, door and handrail immediately after anyone touches them too then it's a PR exercise.

Sanitise your hands when you enter the classroom, don't bite your nails during a lesson, and don't lick the desks.

£30k saved.

Well its not practical to wipe down every single surface someone might touch, but wiping down the stuff that is practical to do surely will help prevent spread? Not every student will touch the handrails or walls but they will touch their desks and chairs.

You just seem set on picking holes in absolutely everything that happens and trying to make it out as a shambles.

The media going from we need to end vaccine scepticism to we need to end NATO produced  vaccine scepticism overnight is impressive contortion.

A vaccine tested on 36 people producing multiple side effects, and given out before phase 3 trials have been completed if even started, could certainly increase vaccine scepticism if it goes wrong.

Here's an interesting bit of dialect from the BBC on it.

If it doesn't 100% stop transmission on its own it's a stupid waste of time and money. :1eye

Firing money into a kitty and then buying your own drinks individually from said kitty is up there with the most nonsensical thing i've ever heard.

You new to P&B?

Or at least never been on The Falkirk FC Thread?

A cluster of cases involving kids from Bannerman High...... SHUT THE SCHOOLS incoming.

Haha called it weeks ago. Exact same thing happened the day the schools opened in England

"CLUSTER LINKED TO SCHOOL"

Then you read the article to find the pupils haven't been in the school for months.

Never change MSM 🤣

You're the one that's been greetin for months about not coming out of lockdown quick enough. Donate or something.

I can't be the only one who thinks spending £30k on 4 months worth of wipes is a bit of a waste of money, considering the pupils have no requirement to social distance outwith the classroom (and then immediately wash their hands anyway). It's a thing for the sake of being seen to be doing a thing.
There are surely far better things that schools can spend £30k a term on.

Teacher estimates weren't wildly out everywhere though - in my school we were about 80% accurate while in another school in the region they were just over 50% accurate.

I'm probably missing something, but why weren't estimates 100% accurate?

Reading about it the phase 3 trial is about to begin and only 2000 people are in the first stage. It can't be used en mass until January (and can obviously be pulled before then).

The Oxford-Astra Zeneca vaccine is being tested on 1000 people just now. It's not that different.

They're being considerably more transparent on their testing so far, and are looking at 30,000 in total, not sure on the current numbers but have at least 4000 signed up in the UK, and have started in Brazil and South Africa.

Nah, the AstraZeneca UK trial has 4000 participants with a further 10,000 to be included within the UK. Brazil have a further 5000 enrolled at the moment and you would expect that to increase by many thousands more in the coming months

There is a suggestion it's linked via a "gathering " to the Low Moss prison outbreak. Not a thing to do with the school despite the headline.

At my sons school today they held the traditional 1st year parade. The newbies are paraded through the school by pipers. Good to see they are keeping it as normal as possible.
