Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The problem NS has is that by lecturing people and spreading fear for months, people simply stopped listening, and have made their own minds up.
The people that were terrified to go out won't have been going out anyway, and will still stick to the guidance religiously. Those that know that they aren't really at anywhere near the level of risk NS wants them to believe they are have already stopped listening, will continue to do so, will more than likely ignore being told they can't visit their pals' houses, and will be straight back out as soon as they are allowed to.
If that us the case given her tone today Scotland is screwed as we will never be free of measures if such roasters do actually exist in any numbers. Not sure how the people you describe can't correlate that their behaviour is simply prolonging the situation they are rebelling against.

NS definitely ramping up the rhetoric that she will simply not accept nor will she allow the virus to spike like it has in Aberdeen and big hints they are about to amend the guidance and legislation around the hospitality sector. Looks like she wants to stop "pub crawls" but god knows how you enforce that.

Surely just let folk stay in a pub as long as they like? and then stop (advise?) folk visiting more than one licenced premises a day?

No restrictions down here on how long you can stay and clearly wasn't at the premises pictured in Aberdeen with huge queues waiting to get into already full premises. The young team don't want to wait in 1 pub all night it's that the govt will struggle to control.

Stamp the back of someone's hand when they enter a pub. If they leave and try to get into another pub, they'll have a stamp and not be allowed in.

How you enforce it is a different matter though, and would rely on pub owners not solely employing 18 year-old lassies and actually having doormen.

Of course they exist. You only need to look at facebook and instagram stories to see the level of fucks large numbers of young people aren't giving.

Add that to the things a few of us saw on trains last week where not a mask was in sight among large groups of young people.

People not sticking to the rules, however, is not what will lead to restrictions remaining in Scotland for the forseeable. Certain restrictions will remain in place for now, obviously, but useless lockdowns will keep being re-enforced until there is an acceptance firstly that the virus isn't anywhere near as dangerous for the vast majority as it is still being made out to be, and secondly, that it is completely unrealistic to make out that it is a viable plan to make a virus go away by hiding away from it indefinitely, especially so once schools go back and the JRS ends.

Young people clearly aren't scared. And tbh, with all the data available to them, it will be very hard to convince them that they should be.

I suspect your "mob rule" will never happen we are hardly renowned for it. We all want it to end but the young team rebelling will not bring that about.

Stopped reading this thread regularly a month or so ago and caught up about 200 pages or so the last few days. Lot of roasters on this forum eh?

Been interesting to see the general attitude shift over time as well, although I still couldn't give a shiny shit about gyms being open or not tbh.

On balance, I suspect they'd be better dropping the social distancing in pubs, but regulating for a 1 or 2 pub limit for a night out in the short term. Faf better surely from a tracking perspective to know you are dealing with fewer localities, even at an increased probability of a definite infection vector occurring.

No those cases are apparently linked as one of the staff members in the chemist is in a relationship with one of the amazon cases and apparently the amazon boy caught it on a night out.

So why did multiple people then contract the virus from the staff member? There's no scope for people getting pished and forgetting their social distancing in a pharmacy: as indoor spaces go it is one of the most easily controlled and yet there was still an outbreak.

The lesson here is that it is foolish to jump to your pet moralising theory about how an outbreak spread when there are countless means by which it could do so.

People will be delighted it finally happened in a pub rather than a frozen fish factory, call centre and pharmacy as previously.

People are weird.

Actually on second thoughts the reaction to the call centre changed when it was discovered it was being used by PHE.

Im not moralising about it, the person was in a pub, pubs are open, they’ve gone somewhere the authorities said they could. I just think opening pubs as quick was a wrong move.

1) Old jakies are if anything more likely to engage in a pub crawl than 'the young team': they just consider it 'standard Monday drinking' instead of making a scene about it. Pre-drinking in somebody's house has in fact been the preference of the latter for fucking years.

2) These groundless slurs against young people are being banked for when the government punts all you old codgers into lockdown and your inevitable meltdown about the ageist injustice of it all.
