I honestly think more was made of that than there actually was, or do you genuinely think elected ministers are thinking about Celtic and Rangers games? I don't think Jeane Freeman or Nicola Sturgeon could care less tbh.

Yes

The care home system was a disgrace and needed looked at before covid. There’s one near my folks house and I’ve never seen the residents or a single resident outside ever in twenty years. The owner has a nice brand new merc though.

I was really shocked finding out a few years back just how lucrative the carehome business is. Get the right contacts and you can easily pass on the risks to the tax payer and reap all of the rewards. Very easy to rip the pish with how you set salaries etc when if the company does go insolvent, you're contracts are lucrative enough to pass onto a newco which you're likely to be a part of.

I'm optimistic though that a lot of this will be dismantled though, looks like the tide is changing and it'll be a popular viewpoint in 2021.

More lecturing fear mongering today.

Consistant if nothing else.

The focus is entirely on giving moaning middle class parents state funded childcare the schools going back in August so everything will be damage limitation to try and ensure that happens.

To emphasise the point,(and the general mindset held by those in power)

(Other than training) Kids' football can't start until mid October at earliest. Yet they can go to school in two weeks, and need not social distance.

Been holding a belief for a while now that those in power at the SFA are getting some sort of perverse sense of staisfaction from being obstructive and holding the game back.

The SFA have to follow government guidelines, the idea that they are choosing to stop people playing football is perhaps the biggest piece of nonsense on this thread, and that's among stiff competition.

And rightly so, to paraphrase Whitney (as opposed to Whitty) I believe that children are the future...

The decision was made in conjunction with Scottish Government and SportScotland. So you're wide of the mark there suggesting that the SFA were only following government guidelines.

I'd have thought that the SFA would be keen to get football started as soon as was safe. Kids safe to go back to school and need not social distance. Safe to play football with their pals down the park

But not safe to play in a match in a controlled enviornment, where the only real difference is they're all wearing the same coloured strips.

I'm entitled to my opinion - and my opinion is that those in power at the SFA are getting some sort of perverse sense of staisfaction from being obstructive and holding the game back.

The LJ has the capacity for every Covid patient currently in hospital in Scotland, with spare capacity.

Rather than using it for outpatient stuff for the sake of being able to say "oh well we used it" - the focus should be on moving Covid patients there to allow the rest of the NHS to operate at full capacity.

The idea that it is ok for people to miss out on treatment that could prove fatal in the not too distant future because we have a very small prevelance of covid shouldn't sit right with anybody.

Everyone points to the excess deaths figure as justification for everything that is going on, will the same anger be directed at governments if, in 12-24 months, we approach similar numbers as a result of focusing resources on Covid-19?

NS spectacularly still not umderstanding that WM are not looking likely to extend the JRS because they are actively taking steps to ensure that there will be no need for it. From what BJ said a week or so ago, they plan on having little to no restrictions remaining by 1st November.

The only way it will be extended is if restrictions remain in England due to an increase in cases de-railing their re-opening plan.

There is no chance they will continue to offer the scheme solely in Scotland, no matter how many times NS asks.

I sincerely hope that she is not relying on that safety net being around as we approach October and businesses in Scotland still restricted start to fail / severely cut back on staff.

Do you honestly believe England will be 100% fully measure free with no social distancing in just over 12 weeks. Pie in the sky stuff when BJ has publicly spoken of 2nd waves, reimposed quarantine and applied several localised restrictions since he made that statement. Masks and SD will be here until we roll out an effective vaccine even if that takes years.

I think is unlikely they will be fully measure free, but, given the path they are heading down, I don't expect there will be any sectors still forced closed. I wouldn't be overly shocked if social distancing was relaxed in any public place so long as masks were worn, though.

I don't expect the JRS to be extended. And, even if it were to be, any business still not able to open would be unlikely to be able to afford the no doubt increased contributions they would be asked to make. I am absolutely certain, though, that it will not be extended purely for Scotland.

I am definitely concerned that the SG's cautious approach is underpinned by that safety net being there if needed.

Genuine question: what do you do for a living?

If it isn’t ‘public health specialist’ have you considered a career change? Seems to be you know better than the accumulated intelligence of the Scottish Government, NHS Scotland and Public Health Scotland. It’s a shame to waste your natural flair for public health (and economic) analysis and insight on a Scottish football forum IMO.

I don't disagree - just very doubtful how this is reported.

A balanced report would be looking at the role of not just the Scottish Government but the care businesses themselves.

Also given the BBC's previous on this, the use of supposedly ordinary individuals who turn out to be party hacks, I am somewhat cynical when it comes to anecdotal-based evidence.

Genuinely idk, where does the power reside over something like the nationalisation of care homes or who gets the contracts to run them? Cause if it resides at Holyrood then even the shoddy running of them ultimately comes back to the government.
