The majority of society are absolutely itching to get back to normal and when this is declared over you'll see a small minority who continue to be paranoid for a while, but once they see others out enjoying themselves they'll come round. My company are talking about working from home becoming a permanent thing and there's chat of moving to a 4 day week. If that is the consequences of post covid fears then you can count me in. Unfortunately I will see no such benefits. I hope you are right about the other stuff. I have did my best to keep to the rules but dont mind admitting I have hated every aspect of "the new normal" and it's that constant bombardment of "new normal" talk that IMO will result in some folk thinking we cant go back to how things were.

I don't think anyone enjoys it, but I think a dose of Stoicism is required in situations like this. Easier said than done, I agree.

Standing near a Covid-19 carrier for half an hour is obviously a greater risk than walking past them for 5 seconds to pick up a tin of beans. Do you not agree? No I don’t agree at all. In my experience over the past 2 months social distancing (2m) has been far more widely observed outside supermarkets that in them.

Far too often for my liking. Not me doing the “getting within 2m” btw, other arseholes constantly leaning over you or standing next to you when Im perusing the mushrooms. Doesn’t happen per se in queues.

You won't spontaneously catch covid 19 by wandering momentarilly within 2m of an infected person. You are, however, much more likely to catch it if you stand 2m away from an infected person for half an hour. Disagreeing with that is silly.

The chances of you interacting with someone who is infected is much greater if your mobile. If you’re stuck in between two infected folk in a queue then perhaps but the chances of that are slim compared to being mobile. Primary school stuff tbh.
HeartsOfficialMoaner
I don't mind a summer of garden BBQ's, going to beaches and parks too socialise. Some beer gardens will be good.

The constant references to winter is them pretty much saying that they have no intention of removing restrictions this year, regardless of the landscape or "the science" It's a doubling down to save face, as, if it does f**k off by the end of summer, it would be an utterly humiliating comedown for things to be allowed to be normal in mere months.

Steven W
359 UK (or is it just England) deaths being reported by Johnson is really disappointing and worrying. The death rate is plateauing it seems. On another note, 359 deaths reported on the same day it's officially announced that were I to visit, say, Spain (recently 0 deaths) I'd need to quarantine for 14 days upon my return. Mind boggling (although Patel's nickers will be wet at the prospect)

You can stand 2m away from them for 30 mins. I'll simply walk past them and get on with my day. Which of us do you think is more likely to catch it from them? PS the answer "neither of us is at all likely to catch it" is acceptable. Edited June 3, 2020 by Todd_is_God

Don't know about that. I think things will be a lot different come August. I'm thinking of doing the 14 days quarantine for a couple of weeks away though.

Better still ill stand 2m away from one in the queue outdoors whilst you go in to the stop and come into close promxity with 10 of them whilst you move around the shop. Get me some Lurpak and treat yourself to a sweetie.
O'Kelly Isley III
Just been to the local drive through Starbucks.4 staff all wearing facemasks behind the counter.1 wearing it properly, 2 of them with it pulled down just covering their mouth with their nose exposed and 1 of them with it pulled down to his jawline with both mouth and nose exposed. What’s the point [emoji1787]If you aren’t going to wear the mask properly you’re better not wearing it at all. Wearing it improperly just means you’re touching your face more which increases risk without getting any of the benefits of the mask.Did you complain to them ?
welshbairn
I'm with Todd on this one. It's all about load factor, you'll get f**k all walking straight past someone momentarily unless they cough straight in your face. Standing 2 meters away from someone for half an hour and there's a fair chance you'll catch it if they're infected. 2 metres isn't safe, it's just the maximum practical distance in most situations.

I'm sure Jason Leitch said something similar on the radio when asked about what happens if you were to walk or run past someone when there was no safe option to go onto the road/step to the side.
