Its not a weak statement if its the actual truth. Durham have had one of the lowest rates of issuing covid fines so its entirely in keeping with their approach to enforcement etc. They’ve absolutely clarified that contrary to No 10’s statement they did speak to people within Cummings household. Its not their job to enter the politicking and they have clarified their actions very clearly. They’ve also made people who doubted it happened look very daft.

I agree. I think it's quite a damning statement, and it cuts right through the right-wing smokescreen that he wasn't there at all.

True, but the Downing Street statement did include his family.

Downing Street statement:

‘At no stage was he or his family spoken to by the police about this matter, as is being reported.'

According to that statement, they weren't "spoken to by the police". Cummings' dad requested to speak to them, and got advice from them.

The cops have made a c**t of it.

The crucial thing is that they named him which the police don't tend to do in these types of situation.

Yes, but they said his Dad phoned to arrange the call, and after being told he was socially isolated they just had a wee chat about security matters. Not even a warning, or a don't do it again.

Right enough.

This. While it’s common place in the PMs life that speaking to a parent would not mean the children were any the wiser that’s clearly not the case here.

Durham cops versus No. 10 isn't really the issue here. Fleet Street's rope a dope on No.10 is the greatest eyebrow raiser and it's a glory to behold.

You'd think Number 10 would have learnt how to handle it from watching Sturgeon falling into the exact same trap over Calderwood.

Calderwood goes to her second house.

Sturgeon supports her at press conference.

Calderwood revealed to have visited the house twice

Sturgeon fires her.

We're now between points 3 and 4 for Cummings, at some point over the next 24 hours no doubt they'll sneak out a resignation announcement - no doubt just after some big announcement at tomorrows briefing.

They’ve not made a ‘c**t of it’. They were made aware he had left London and most likely had corona virus, Police aren’t readily attending houses with people who have symptoms where they can take action over the phone. In this case i’d wager Cummings knew he had been spotted and had his dad phone the local police, they got in touch and said that its not adviseable and took no further action. Its already been pointed out that Durham have a lower rate of fines etc in terms of the regulations and that’s consistent across the board. Their statement today cuts through the lies from No 10, they said the police hadnt spoken to his family or some other similar form of words and Durham have confirmed categorically that they did. Cummings isnt entitled to security details etc as hes not a protected person so there’s absolutely nothing to suggest he was getting ‘security advice’, indeed the force’s statement doesnt say anything like that.

‘Giving someone advice’ is polite police speak for ‘He was warned’.

No 10 just doubling down and screaming fake news in the hope it all goes away.

They’ll be taking the moral fucking high ground by Monday, just watch. ‘There’s a virus out there killing people!’.

I very much doubt it, this government do what they please and they've got another 5 years before an election.  In a few days people will get fed up the story and the media will move on.  Cummings will still be hanging around.

I suspect that Cummings and the government are just going to deny the second article as lies. They've already accused the police of being liars so calling journalists liars isn't exactly a jump. And all the Tory lovers will lap it up.

They're nothing, if not predictable.

"Durham Constabulary deemed that no further action was required. However the officer did provide advice in relation to security issues".

Is that polite police speak for "He was warned"? It really doesn't seem like it. It also seems like there's something to suggest he was getting security advice, because it actually states that.

I love how if you're an aristocrat you can phone the police up to discuss timing and terms of the discussion.

*Sees Jordan Peterson is too incapacitated to stop the cultural marxists from feeding you lies* Well it's almost as if the police weren't actually formed to protect the people but rather to defend the property of the ruling classes 😇

4 years. Next general election due May 2024. You might be correct otherwise though. I’m not convinced the media will just move on though. This is a huge story. We’ll see.

I’m frankly shocked anyone assumed the lockdown rules were for anyone other than the plebs. Anything else just wouldn’t be British.

Our betters must be privately seething at being second-guessed in this manner. Must be a few hacks who’ll have to work hard to get their place back in the honours queue.
