You genuinely think that Wuhan, a city of 12 million people, where people were literally getting welded into their flats records less deaths than New York or London.

Aye nae bother. Wouldn't surprise me if it's tens of thousands in that city alone.

They will argue they took extreme measures to kill the outbreak dead in its tracks.

Maybe they did, maybe they didn't.

They need to normalise the number of cases to be per capita population to provide a sensible comparison. If they did Belgium would be much more of a talking point at the moment.
It really wouldn't be. You can also do that for New York state which pisses all over Belgium.

The part where people were being welded into their flats may have something to do with the lower number of deaths.

Weeks before lockdown there were people getting infected left right and centre with Wuhan pneumonia but nothing to see here. There were literally hundreds infected and the Chinese were still trying to insist that there's no human to human transmission. Yes they enforced a stricter lockdown but was it too late in the context of Wuhan ? I suspect we'll never know the true extent of it but anyone that even remotely believes China's curve is a bit daft imo.

I think it's likely that the numbers from the start of the crisis are incorrect and were likely covered up.

Yet at the same time, because they welded people in doors they have probably got it under control now.

Spain seems to have a lovely quick curve on the go, whereas Italy can't get off the bloody plateaux. And why are these wealthy countries being hit so much harder?

It's a weird old pandemic this.

The wealthy countries have access to testing and pretty good health infrastructure in place. The data is there too.

If Covid-19 takes hold in, for example, sub-Saharan Africa (and apparently all but 3 countries in Africa have recorded cases) then it's probably going to be catastrophic. What might help is (a) some of the countries have recent experience in managing disease outbreaks, (b) there's less international travel spreading the disease to these places, and (c) they've got younger populations.

No one's disputing they've go it under control now but 3 thousand deid [emoji23]. This is country where people leave wee girls on the side of the road but managed to come out with a death rate far below any developed Country. I'd love to see Wuhans true figures. I reckon the amount of deaths would be quite frightening especially now we know how long it takes to care for someone and the mortality rate once you get to a certain stage. I reckon ma wee boy could look at China's figures and think nah..they're at it.

The money generated by the Indian economy simply leaves the economy and is hoarded by a tiny number of people.

How are they hoarding money? They're not Ken Dodding billions in cash in their mattresses. They're purchasing things with it and investing it. It'll be a tiny percentage that's actually held as cash in banks.

Ok, and what's the benefit to your average Indian geezer of spending on yachts, expensive paintings, apartments in New York, expensive jewellery, country houses etc?

It's not like the Indian 1% are nipping off down to the local corner restaurant and keeping their local economy going. As much as the trickle-down economics gang would love us all to believe it, that's just not how the wealthy spend their dosh.

Same as in the UK, they are minimising their tax and protecting their wealth for future generations of privilege.

Regardless of how much of a c**t he is, the Prime Minister being in intensive care during a pandemic is quite a big news story. Don't understand why folk are surprised at the coverage it's getting.
