This is why the closures should be mandatory, to stop ANY business in ANY sector practicing predatory trading.

This is madness.

Completely missing the point of what is going on. It's really incredible.

Does the UK not have access to news from other countries or something?

It's crazy.

A lot of places had FB posts up last night saying they were closing, different ones put up ones this morning saying they were remaining open and it seems to have triggered the others to open up again.

The idea of missing out on some money seems to overwhelm the safety of thousands of people.

Regarding construction sites, there's a huge difference round the country due to the mixed messages. Gove said stay open, Sturgeon said close. My colleagues in England say 90% of their factories supplying sites are staying open. Up here, 90% of mine are closed or closing. The exception was one who stayed open and got a visit from the police this morning:

"Why are you open? Why are all these people in the factory? What do you think you're doing?"

"Government said building sites to stay open"

Cop slowly looks around factory and says "Does this look like a fucking building site to you? Get it shut, NOW" (direct quote)

Next door neighbour headed off to work at 7.45 am this morning. He works in a window factory.

Someone going out on his own for a jog isn't going to be stopped to check that it is his first jog of the day, and someone carrying a shopping bag won't have his bag searched to check it contains essential food items. But a group of bams gathering in a park will get broken up, I would imagine.

"Okay let's see what's in the bag.  You say you are going to have pizza tonight.  Fair enough.  Pizza bases - bit lazy - you should make your own.  Tomota sauce, cheese, oregano.  Okay.  Pepperoni?  I suppose.  What's this other stuff?  Mushrooms, olives, anchovies!  Are these really essential?  Oh what this?  Pineapple!   Right that's it.  You'll have to come down to the station with us".

Did she? The Scottish government’s list of key industries seems to be precisely the same as the UK list, which clearly states (for some reason) that construction is a key industry that doesn’t have to agree to mandatory closure.

I may have missed her saying that, right enough, but it’s not on the official advice on either the Scottish or UK government sites.

This is going to require an officially declared lockdown. I get why the governments of the UK have hesitated from using the word, but it’s going to have to come eventually. People really are fucking clueless. If life is going on as normal for them, they’re part of the problem.

In honesty if I so wished I could do as I pleased today due to being at work in Glasgow. I could be out "shopping" just now or go for my "exercise" around the block etc. Likewise when I return home to Ayrshire I can go "shopping" again or take my "exercise" later.

Over and above this, we have no Police in the town and live in a rural area with lots of hills, woodland etc, so really I could do as I please without any issue.

As has already been posted, "construction" covers a wide range, it's just not possible to shut up shop at the drop of a hat, it's not like turning off a tap. At the very least sites must be left secure and weatherproof.

Likewise. We live in the countryside and the actual policing of our behaviour is minimal if any. The point is that I choose to limit my movement and social interaction. There’s a lot of trust being placed in members of the public who are showing they are undeserving of that trust.
