You haven't said what that would achieve

Well if it was to happen that us and every other country was to stop trading with them. We would have way less international travel to and from to every country from China. And so limiting the spread of any potential virus.

The threat of a lack of international trade would hopefully force them to reform their food hygiene standards. With more inspections and closures of restaurants, markets, stalls that do not comply.

We'll never know. Even if it turns out Italy has a far higher infection/mortality rate or vice versa. There's just too many variables to ever compare like for like using one of them with any confidence.

Well, if we’ll never know if Italy and France got their tactics right, or we got it right, and there’s too many variables to tell, then thank goodness we never went full Monty this week too, if we’ll never know it would have been any different from the Italian approach.

Again any trade sanctions wouldnt work in the past without use of a time machine

I'll try one final time. How would your suggestion prevent the spread of any similar virus in the future?

All Costas and Starbucks in the UK will be takeaways from tomorrow and bad news for Perthshirebell as the cycling industry joins forces to call on the government to exempt cycling from any ban.

Imagine ordering a coffee from one of them, because you're too fucking lazy to get up and stick on the kettle.

Finally your question is phrased correctly.

So by your own admission, it may limit transmission but would not prevent it. Given the Chinese in that situation would have little to lose, do you think they would admit to the rest of the world that they have a problem, or do you think they would leave it for the rest of the world to realise they also have a problem?

Bing’s a wee bit out of his depth.

Not "may" it would limit any transmission massively.

I think they would have plenty to lose, their whole economy. And so would be open and willing to reform. With inspections and sanctions enforced by their government and outside agencys.

rumours abounding about the army being sent on to the streets to enforce a lockdown.

Great, I go out for a paper and get shot by some trigger happy Fijian.

Na.  Just out for a walk.  There’s not enough troops to secure London anyway.
