Maybe airline staff could help out?

Not sure they're on a par with an ICU nurse, to be fair.

All this chat about getting JCB to make some ventilators (I'll have an actual medical company like Dräger or Penlon, please) is pointless when we don't have enough trained staff to use them.

It’s like no one in government has ever planned for the possibility of a pandemic.

That's just untrue.  Many of them have piles of gold bullion buried in the grounds of their estates and remote private islands.

Without being sympathetic to our government. It seems this is the case in the whole of the western world, which is terrifying.

It’s one of those things you assume there’s a big red folder somewhere with an action plan that you don’t need to know about until it’s needed.

Oh we have, we've even had a health board policy. It all goes tits up though when people realize what it actually involves.

We've not even fully fitted all our acute staff with PPE. We only stopped electives yesterday. We should have been amending the last ten days supplying PPE, emptying our wards and training.

Obama set up a pandemic response team within the Center for Disease Control in the wake of the last Ebola outbreak. Trump dissolved it in 2018.

Action being taken immanently on schools.

Not sure what that means but unsure if I’m ready for my wife to work from home as well.

I'm guessing secondary schools will be closing by the end of the week 🤷‍♂️

Lad on Facebook has reworded the Seeker by the Who...

Spoiler

Changed this song by the Who. Might do a little video playing it later

THE SEEKER

I've looked in Tesco, I've looked in Asda's
But I cant find bog roll, and I've got no fucking pasta
They call me the seeker, I've been searching low and high
I won't get a crate of stella, til the day I die.

I asked in aldi, I asked in sainsburys
I got a pack of crackers but I've got no fucking cheese
They call me the seeker, I've been searching low and high
Can't wipe my ass with Andrex, guess I'll just drip dry.

People I really hate them, cos they panic buy
As I'm waiting for this madness to finally pass
I can't get any bread, so I hope you choke on yours, and you can shove your baguettes right up your ass.

I learned how to raise my voice in anger! Stop buying everything you selfish c***s!
I'm running out of gravy, I've tried to order online, but I cant get a delivery for months

I'm buying for me, you're buying for you
But some greedy mutherfucker is buying for 92
They call me the seeker, been searching low and high. Won't get a real dinner, til the day I die. Won't get to get a real dinner, til the day i die!

Which will be useless unless they plan to eat it or wipe their arses with it.

In all seriousness, what use is gold in a pandemic?

We're having fun. All elective surgery cancelled. Doubling our ICU capacity (we'll probably need more). Transferring staff to critical care. Not enough PPE to go round everyone. We're going to go to 3 on 3 off shifts for the foreseeable future so we can staff ICU, HDU and theatres.

Going to be a big impact on medical training. Medical students have all been sent home, university exams cancelled... Who knows what will happen in August, if final years can't graduate, might not have any new doctors starting; or they might start having not sat any final exam...

The junior doctors have been told they're not rotating in April. All interviews for training jobs in August cancelled. Specialist exams cancelled. All study leave cancelled. Senior trainees about to become consultants may not be signed off.

Going to be very busy the next few months...

We're not going to need as many doctors with half the population dying.

Gold bullion has no nutritional or medicinal value.    Not very comfy to wear, either.

I was about 9 when it was first on. My dad let me stay up to watch it and I was too scared to go to bed afterwards.

As far as post apocalyptic films go Steel Dawn starting Patrick Swayze is a guilty pleasure, as are The Ultimate Warrior, starring Yul Brynner and Damnation Alley, starring George Peppard.

The writers of Judge Dredd in 2000AD saw "Damnation Alley", thought it was shite and wrote the classic story "The Cursed Earth" as a better version.

Yes, I'd guess Friday and then a total lockdown won't be far behind.

Ultimately we're doing our own thing, screwing it up, and then following the rest of Europe's / the world's lead about 10 days later.

Malaysia's restricted movement came into effect today, so we're at the end of day 1.

Basically, all non-essential workplaces are shut. Supermarkets/grocery shops are open. Food delivery is available and some restaurants are open for takeaway only. Basically, the advice is just stay at home.

Found today quite difficult, to be honest. It's that feeling of having had choice removed. You can't really go and see anyone, you can't meet up with anyone, even things like going out running are frowned upon.

I'm working from home and am actually glad to have work to do to keep the mind occupied. It's not much, I think I can fire through what I really need to do in 2-3 hours a day. I've also made sure to speak to a couple of mates on Skype and will do that with 2 people per day when possible.

Our prime minister was on telly tonight giving the public a row for not following the advice closely enough today, basically threatening that the measures will become more strict if the public don't start playing ball.

It's been a strange day. It doesn't really feel real.

In a perverse way I'm pleased that Trump and Johnson have to deal with this shitstorm.       (but obs not very good for the populace)
