Coronavirus (COVID-19)

I was reading somewhere that a big issue with coronavirus is that a lot of people are asymptomatic or experiencing very mild symptoms so putting it down to seasonal flu/colds.

The headline numbers are just those positively tested and you can likely add another 30-40% on top of those that are mild/asymptomatic.

Which is worrying as the incubation period is fairly long and you are infectious whilst incubating so it can spread quite readily.

If more people have it are asymptomatic or experience mild symptoms it also means the virus is far less dangerous than is being reported.

I'm off to Turkey shortly and like their policy.
No one gets to enter the country if they have been in any of a certain list of countries in the last 14 days. Including Italy etc.
Turkey's current confirmed cases even with a huge border with Iran is still 0

If the Italian states are to be believed then the death rates is around 5%. That's significant and suggests it is dangerous - or at least to people with complications. No developed country should be accepting that sort of hit rate on its citizens. However, the Italian data may be unreliable.

With the number of people from elsewhere coming back from Italy infected, their numbers are not possible at all.

You'll love their policy when they stop flights to the UK to stop us infecting them.

Oil price halved, strange time for Saudi and Russia to start a supply war.
Bet you petrol & diesel will still have a price rise here.

Maybe because every passenger going through Milan airport has been thermally screened since 6th Feb. You can't get into the departures lounge without being screened.

Quote

Airports perform thermal screening of passengers to spot fevers caused by infections such as CoV, swine flu, and influenza (such as H1N1). Thermal screening is performed using mass-screening systems that measure the skin temperature at high-speed using thermal imaging and temperature measurement equipment such as the FevIR Scan.

Such quick mass-screening ensures to take security measures without causing delays and discomfort to passengers.

Heathrow's got the same system.

If you can catch this twice surely the current outbreak will never die down and the world is fucked?

Not that unusual and there will be vaccine eventually. We live with loads of diseases that don't disappear completely.
