Ireland

This seems, to an outsider like me with no real understanding, to be an odd thing to do.

A thread on Ireland? Can see this running for the next thousand years. Hope the P&B mods are immortal.

Ah the RIC, the armed native British police force in Ireland that enforced the law during the Great Hunger. Ulster Unionism thought that much of them they hunted them at the creation of the Failed State.

Yeh let's all give them a salute.

Some also ran soup kitchens during the famine.

Not quite accurate. The RUC carried on the traditions of the RIC and in the early years had a lot of Roman Catholic officers that were former RICmen (over 20% from what I remember reading).

Nearer 50% - 1300 (approx) out of 3000 (approx)

The RIC was that well thought of by the Failed State they ditched the Irish part in the name.

RIC 1822-1922 100 years and goodnight

RUC 1922-2001 79 years and goodnight

PSNI i'll be generous and give them 50 years.

They have 30 years out the 50 left.

I can tell you that FG & FF will be around 19th &20th

Probably

Social Democrats 1
People Before Profit 2
Sinn Fein 3

It then gets very messy down to around 20th

Is there no £500 deposit if you don't get 5% of the vote over there, or something similar?

For £500 I'm sure you could get a large portion of the population to sing The Sash

Irish General Election set for 8th February

Guess Fine Gael were using the RIC stuff to make their opponents look like backward throwbacks just in time for an election then.

Possible but tbh from what I read I think public opinion was very much against the commemoration. Coincides with the 100yr anniversary of Balbriggan, Cork demolition and shootings in croke park. Maybe wait a couple of years.
