The article leaves out that he gets a nice little golden handshake of €300,000 I think it is.. and keeps his nice big pension..  I'm sure the boys will sort him with another handy post.

That does seem a bit over the top, but it might be standard EU practice in these sort of instances for all we know, after all it's only taxpayers money.

I don't think he should have got it (the golden handshake) but it would be a bit unfair to deny him his pension (extravagant though it may be). His pension is probably more for a day than I get in a year.

Just been announced that the entire Dáil has been adjourned for the rest of the week and the entire Cabinet has to self-isolate, after the Health Minister started to feel unwell and is waiting for a test.

All going well then.

The lack of coherence and competence since the new coalition came to power is something else.

I'm not sure whether it's Glynn replacing Holohan, or Martin replacing Varadkar, but the perception that the government was handling things well has surely all but vanished.

Agreed, for all his many faults, Leo was/is a far better communicator than Mihail.

Both still c***s to be sure

Oh aye, both total c***s.

Maybe some of the problem is that back on the 12th March, it was obvious what the goal was - lower the virus until it is at low a level as possible.

But now, the goal isn't very clear. What's an acceptable number of cases a day? We've no idea. They're telling us we'll have to live with it, but they're not telling us how much of it we'll have to live with.

In fairness, the virus got rid of the shinners

Slightly OT, but I maintain that the Left coalescing around the shinners in the election earlier this year will end up being a disaster in the long term for socialism in Ireland.

I know that there weren't a lot of options because the minority left parties only stood so many candidates, but there are some very obvious reasons to be uneasy with them representing the Left.

Fianna Fail polling at 10% this week. Martin avoided the tag of the first FF leader not to become taoiseach, but he's probably en route to becoming the least popular. I've never rated him but he's clearly toiling now.

That's PASOKification in action. How does local government work in Ireland? Could they also be on those sort of numbers there too?

It's  single transferable votes along the lines of the counties with Dublin divied up into some "county" councils and not one authority. (Fingal Cc/ South Dublin CC for example)

I don't know about up the country but in Kerry it's a large geographical area with variations on the sub-divided "seats" based on the bigger towns (Killarney/Tralee/Kenmare/Dingle/Listowel). It's multi seat wards like Scotland is now.

Independents do well. The Healy-Rae clan have three councillors scattered about three different seats, for example. FG/FF don't dominate. If FF were polling at 10% in Kerry local elections it wouldn't make much difference to be honest.
