Zetterlund
A couple of years ago Soleimani was being portrayed in US media as an unlikely ally in the fight against ISIS. The 'imminent threat' narrative was clearly bullshit, with the lunatic Pompeo saying they didn't know what, where or when, just that something was gonna happen, and even the secretary of defence Mark Esper saying he hasn't seen the intelligence himself. This guy agrees -
Newbornbairn
I tend to agree that saying the threat was "imminent" is over-egging it but that's because the law says it has to be imminent to justify the hit. More likely is they saw an opportunity to get him and the leader of the militia who attacked their embassy and took it. It was a clear message to the Iranians to wind their necks in which may yet pay off due to the internal reactions in Iran.
welshbairn
The "imminent threat" thing was bollocks anyway. Even if they were planning to blow up 4 embassies, Soleimani wouldn't be planting the explosives personally, or firing the missiles. It would have been even more likely to go ahead with him dead. It was a political assassination, plain and simple.

A repressed population may have been given the trigger to rise up against this pretty awful regime. Interesting times. Problem is, the regime has God on its side. They can do whatever they like. Religion is a useful tool in oppression. Look how Trump often references God. For the avoidance of doubt, there is no god.

ICTChris
Mad how we all forgot about the 3rd world war. Anyway, Iran are trying to get Interpol to put a red notice on Trump, which is good banter.https://www.aljazeera.com/amp/news/2020/06/iran-issues-arrest-warrant-trump-asks-interpol-200629104710662.html?__twitter_impression=true
