Rovers v Peterhead - welcome to 2020

Recommended Posts

Another match that ended up much more of a struggle than it should've really been.

We played some good stuff, particularly in the first half, and should've been 4-1 up by halftime. Anderson and Baird both missed clear chances as well as Hendry's penalty. I thought Hendry was a bit off his game before the penalty but he was woeful in the 2nd half.

The McKay red card was probably merited in that the second booking looked a yellow to me but the first seemed very soft. The booking for Watson was a ridiculous decision.

I'm not there so don't know why he was given a second yellow, just totally fed with barely scraping together a starting XI and then picking up red cards to worsen it.

McKay turns into the challenge, I think that's the issue although still not a yellow card......harsh!

White men cant jamp

Only Grant and Davo have the ability to time a header in this squad.

5-1 at half time wouldn't have been a surprise.

Soft yellows all round, very poor ref!

Don’t think Fleming makes many saves in the first half you wouldn’t completely expect him to make, the one from Gullan’s diving header is pretty good but not outstanding. Tait’s strike is a wee bit of a floater and perhaps he should move his feet a wee bit faster for it.

Red card is a definite. Two stick on bookings. He’s so slow to get to the second one.

Baird

Fleming was really impressive today, if we didn't already have an embarrassment of keepers he would be my first choice in the recruitment stakes.

According to Jim the pen was given for a push by Lyle on our own player, we have a long history of being on the wrong end of Gavin Ross decisions in his early days he sent off 3 of our players at Elgin when definitely 2 should never have walked then a couple weeks later he wrongly sent off another of our players at Stenny which was later overturned on appeal so we know not to expect much from him so no surprize when he gets things wrong, actually thought the worst challenge in the game yesterday was the one on Paddy Boyle which looked like a forearm smash & could have been a red.. Don't know if Rovers play with two wide players all the time but in the games with us they have & always seem to have a player on one side in acres of space. We need to stop giving the ball away in silly places as it is losing us goals regularly. Rory apparently was not feeling 100% but has been carrying a injury most of the season so has been starting on the bench more than you would expect. Rovers were worth their win yesterday but allowed us to make it harder than it should have been.

Looking at the highlights, it's clear what the penalty was given for. Lyle has two hands on Baird's back as he jamp. It's very soft, Baird's clearly looking for it, but there's no conspiracy.

FIFY (to the new grammar standards of this thread).

Still think Fleming had an excellent game and saved several that had real chances, GAndo’s not included.

Noticed recently there's a few images popping up from a photographer from the game. There's more here

Very nice selection of images. It’s really amazing to reflect on the difference digital photography has made in the ability to capture action shots more comprehensively than in the days of film. Being able to hold the button down and shoot an entire sequence rather than having to learn the try to time it as perfectly as possible has made it easier to get those shoots, but this photographer still shows the knack for being at the right place to get the shot, another hard to learn skill.

Would have said the first was a stick on booking from what we've seen the past few weeks. Second looked soft but leading with your arm will always give the ref a decision to make. Clapping a player who's been sent off is an absolute bug bear of mine.

Don't think we looked like losing that game at all today. Fair play to the Peterhead 'keeper, he kept them in the game in the first half. Another win and another game closer to the end of the season while still top. Lots to be positive about.

Did not realise at the time it was the same guy that eventually got sent off that was involved in a far worse challenge that went unpunished the forearm smash on Paddy Boyle which merited a straight red. Paddy is expected to be out for a few weeks after requiring 11 internal stiches in his face.

Wasn’t the same player, Watson was the one who collided with Boyle and was booked at the time for the foul.
