Rovers v Peterhead - welcome to 2020

Recommended Posts

This will be the fourth visit this season for Peterhead as they first foot us.

3-1 in the league cup, 4-0 in the league, then a shakey 1-0 in the Scottish Cup.

Can we get off to a good start to 2020 and keep the title challenge going or will an improved Peterhead do a Dumbarton on us?

I feel much better meeting them at San Starko than up there. While they just kicked Clyde around a bit, Clyde was listing Lennon on the team sheet as a reserve due to injuries. Otherwise recent results have been distinctly adverse to the Blue Toon, except verses Stranraer. Hopefully we can fill the bench and get three points, but we’ll have to see.

Certainly the previous games at Starks have been one sided the first two for Rovers but the last one in the cup how we did win it was a mystery to most that day, think in all three games we have conceded in the first 10 minutes which has not helped. Would probably be happy with a draw but we are definitely due a break at some point so will head down as usual in expectation.

Not sure what to expect from this one, should be heavy favorites top of the league off the back of a derby win and surely a few more players available. However Peterhead took us up north and we utterly robbed them here in the cup. We really need to be winning these games if we’ve any hope of winning this league. So tight at the top there’s no room for errors.

Sounds like Matthews will be the only one returning to the squad this week. You could take out Tait to restore him to the starting line up, and I think that'd be harsh.

Intrigued to see how Watson's development continues with more game time. His performance on Saturday was lightyears ahead of where he was up at Cove at the start of the season.

He’s been dealt a tough hand. Chucked on unexpectedly when down to ten men against Airdrie, away at Falkirk with half a team, out of position against Dumbarton, Fife derby with half a team. Hopefully continues to improve as he’s done with every game.

I would imagine it’ll be the same team again, agree it’d be harsh to drop Tait. Dingwall and Matthews are there as options if he’s not hitting the same heights.

How’s the injury or suspension status for the Blue Toon?

According to todays paper the appeal is going ahead for Si Ferrys red card which it is thought was unfair, apparently the ref did not mention at the time he had given Si another red for events after the foul so it will either be a 2 or 4 game ban he gets. I wonder if the ref will face any scrutiny for failing to keep control .

Another 90 mins and only a mere 7 players missing for this one, should be easy peasy!

Seriously though these are the games we usually screw up in so lets hope the gaffer has them all sorted for it.

If we play quick passes with the same effect as at Bayview it should be alright.

We should chant Gullan name for the whole 90 mins, let him know we want him to stay.
