Ayr v Queens

Recommended Posts

I couldn’t have been in much better a position, behind the goal but to off to the side that it happened at, and am 99.99% sure it wasn’t in. It didn’t even look particularly close to me, and I was pretty annoyed that we didn’t just follow it up properly and bundle it in rather than waiting for it to trickle in and half celebrate.

Both look like penalties to me, with the first one needing to be accompanied by a red card.

That coverage of the incident at the end is inconclusive in itself, but alongside the still posted yesterday, it pretty much confirms for me that it hadn't crossed.  Stills can be unreliable, but it this case, Holt only played the ball once and it doesn't even look that close to the line when he's making contact.

When I learned that it was Billy Dodds who was claiming a clear goal, it suddenly made sense.

Looks like Holt clears it into Kilday and it hits Holt again when he is on the ground. Can’t really see due to players in the way, but it could have crossed the line at that point.

I wanted it as an Ayr fan , but being in a prime position right on bye line looking across it was clear the ball did not cross the line , the ayr players did not fight hard enough to get it over , the defender should have been in the back of the net with the ball , credit to QOS defender at least he showed bravery to keep it out

Yes, watching it again, it's maybe not as clean a clearance as I made out.

I think the fact that a goal seemed inevitable once our goalkeeper had vacated the picture, maybe meant some assumed it must have been one.

Further footage should clear it up altogether.  The fact that all the nearby Ayr fans on here are saying they're pretty sure it didn't cross the line however, suggests strongly that it probably didn't.

Fair play to them.

They are not known as "The Honest Men" for nothing.

If Geggan touched the cross with his head, then the two Ayr players goal side of him would have been offside.  Suspecting this, they might have been afraid to touch the ball and decided to let it roll over the line.

From all the video and stills I’ve seen, particularly the one from the young Ayr vlogger, I suspect the ball did not cross the line. Still not absolutely sure because the first clearance rebounded back onto the clearer and might have been over at that point. Dead jammy for Queens that it didn’t rebound into the net, compounded by the fact that it then then squiggled straight out to the goalie. Must be one of the luckiest escapes I’ve ever witnessed in all my many years watching this game.

After last week’s fiasco at Tannadice re the phantom penalty and subsequent red card, all quite hard to take for us Ayr fans. On the plus side luck wise,  at Queens’ penalty Muirhead should probably have seen red as he clearly made no attempt to the play the ball.

Perhaps "jammy" the way the ball was kept out but we were worth our 3 points and had it went in it would have been a "jammy" point for Ayr.

I would have been "sick as a parrot" if Ayr had got a point yesterday from us being 2 up,  but the way we let them back into the game by sitting deep it wouldn't have been a great shock or injustice imo.  I know that after substituting Semple the shape of the team probably changed but surely no excuse for the entire midfield having to retreat into the defensive third of the park.

Another point that has bugged me for several games now is McCrorie's kick outs,  are they actually worse than what Martin or Lee Robinson were constantly slated for?  He's undoubtedly a great shot stopper and quick off his line,  an upgrade on both of those mentioned,  but his goal-kicks and clearances have me tearing out what little is left of my hair.  Also Holt as wide target man more often than not doesn't work.

It wouldn't have shocked me (because it's us!) but it would have definitely been an injustice. Even the most black and white tinted specs Ayr fans (who are surprisingly missing from this thread) would surely agree.

Aye, when did this become an issue with McCrorie? I do remember Morton fans saying his kicking was poor but his throws were incredible. But even so, I can't recall his kicks being as poor as they have recently. They are getting as bad as Robinson's as you say.

Our play for around 70 minutes warranted absolutely nothing from the game however with the saves McCrorie made and the one being cleared off the line it wasn’t out of reach for us to get a point. Would’ve been both hilarious and undeserved.

I don't want to give the impression I'm disappointed with the keeper,  far from it after what we've had before him,  but even his desire to set up quick attacks with throw-outs seems to have waned a bit since his early days with us, I think he tried it once yesterday.  Maybe not all his fault if players don't make themselves available of course. With the speed of Murray on one wing and El-bak on the other they should be alert to the possibility of a quick counter attack from a throw-out.

Murray isn’t that quick

Enjoyed the game yesterday, desperate stuff at the end but us Queens fans are used to it.

As the Ayr fans on P&B are all very reasonable, I have to say that Ayr played very well for much of the game, they pinged the ball about and kept possession far better than we were able to do. They were a bit over-elaborate in front of goal, that is something we specialise in also.

That’s us half way through the season, anything could happen in the second half.
