Montrose v Falkirk

Huge win for us today. It’s weird a feeling to both be raging at chucking away the 2-0 lead and be delighted about getting the late winner.

Thought we were pretty poor first half and were maybe a little lucky to go into the break 1 up. The formation was really harming us as we had our back 3 only up against the 1 striker and they were dominating in the middle of the park and although we did change formation for the last 15 minutes to 4-4-2 we should’ve made the change earlier imo. The first 20 minutes of the second half we were completely dominant McManus taking his goal extremely well was great play to turn his man and good finish into the corner and if he’d have scored his chance he just dinked wide when running through then that would’ve killed the game there. But as soon as they got the first goal back you just sensed another was coming we were getting deeper and deeper and kept stupidly giving the ball away.

Similar to last week but the team showed great character in that last few minutes to overcome the setback and get the winning the goal again that’s something we didn’t have in us earlier in the season. Declan McManus in that second half putting in another great performance but for me Gary Miller was our best player today. He’s been getting better the more he’s played but both at centre half and centre mid his battling qualities were much needed.

Really good game this actually.

Thought a point each would have been fair in all honesty, though you could argue Falkirk had more clearcut chances.

First half was pretty balanced with the Mo unlucky to go in down at half time. Falkirk had some good chances in the first 5 minutes with McManus getting in behind Dillon. Never a FK for the goal, Matty Allen won the ball and Dixon took a step then threw himself down in a blatant dive which the shitebag of a ref bought. Thought Lennox should have done better with the cross though it was a great ball in admittedly.

Falkirk started the second half well, got a good goal through McManus - again felt Lennox should have done better though it was up the far end so hard to see properly. Falkirk then ran riot for 5/10 minutes with McManus unlucky not to score again when he dinked wide. The game seemed to turn for the Mo once Campbell came on for Watson. Watson had been spraying passes about like Pirlo but his lack of movement meant Falkirk were overrunning the midfield.

Massons shot was about a foot over the line with the Falkirk keeper making a good save a minute or two later. Thought the pen was on the softer side but it was a stupid decision by the Falkirk player to try and check him.

Gutting at the end, Falkirk broke forward with Mo not getting enough players back and got the corner. Poorly defended and thought Lennox should have done better again. Looked good scenes in the away end admittedly.

Ref was shite, Falkirk realised pretty early on he’d give FKs whenever you threw yourself to the ground which Mo should have been more streetwise with and started doing. Also gave lots of free kicks whenever the big number 4 (Buchanan? Who was pretty shite incidentally) launched himself towards balls he was never going to get near. It’s the same old problem for Montrose though, Rennie holds the ball up well and brings others into the game but doesn’t really offer much/any goal threat. Thought Steeves played well, especially second half.

The Montrose keeper was stinking. McMillan should have had a hat trick and so should have McManus. Buchanan missed a sitter too. As someone already said we took too long to change the formation once the went two up. Been unfair had we not won imo as outside one really good save and one routine one first half Mutch had little to do.

Montrose will take points off others in this league so a win was big for us. Bring on Christmas at Airdrie now

PS the Montrose captain should have walked for the lunge at Tidser first half, especially when you see what Telfer got sent off for last weekend

I had a feeling it would be a decent game today and it was. Montrose certainly one of the better sides that we have played this season but had we taken our chances at 2-0 it would have been a pretty comfortable afternoon. Late winner could be a real turning point in our season. Thought the front two looked very lively but too much of a gap between them and the midfield much of the time resulting in them having to fight for long balls rather than run onto passes into space.
A win next week would see us in a good place going into the new year.

Disappointed not to get a draw but we move on nothing you can do now.Falkirk are a decent to be fair best side I have seen at Links park this season,to match a full time side for 90mins shows the strides we have made under Petrie and Campbell. Was too far away to see Falkirk 3rd but I was thinking at the time Lennox could command his area alot more, for the size of him he sure does like to stick to his line.

McKinnon would have lost us that game, and last week too.

Really pleased with the fight Miller and McCracken seem to have brought in.

Few tricky fixtures coming up but hopefully we can build on today's result

Hey ho .. thought we were the better side for most of the game. Falkirk have better players up top and we can’t defend cross balls. That said .. thoroughly enjoyed the game and the Falkirk supporters gave and took it equal measure. Makes a pleasant change to some that have come to LP this season.

Better side for most of the game? Na

Frustrating way to lose a game, but not too disheartened overall by that. We rallied well from 2 down and I thought for most of the game we matched Falkirk's passing/physicality, although I'd agree with those who said they had more of the game. Referee struggled a fair bit, but glad he didn't send Watson off for a really 'robust' tackle in the first half. Goals conceded from free headers at the back post is still our achilles ' heel. That opener was preventable, and the third looked fairly clumsy too.

Falkirk don't look too far off the pace IMO, just a confidence/momentum issue I think. Probably only a good signing or two from getting themselves into the pound seats, but your mileage may vary on that.

Derby next week has slightly more riding on it than at 2.55 this afternoon...
