Ralstonite
We appear to be on the eve of a Tory government, led by an Etonian whom many consider a loathsome buffoon, which will take Scotland out of Europe against the wishes of the vast majority of Scots. It will be interesting to see the next independence polls, because if this isn't enough to galvanise the Scottish people to endorse independence, then I think nationalists will just have to accept that the will is not there. Timing will be crucial, IMHO, and it may depend on the effect Brexit has on Scotland and also on the Tory Party's domestic agenda. Of course the exit poll and early results may be inaccurate, but if they are then it is now or never for Scottish independence. Fun times ahead. I think the worst thing Boris can do is oppose a referendum. As I understand it the Scottish Parliament has the power to hold one, and if it was opposed by Boris that's likely to further the nationalist cause. Obviously the result would not be recognised by Westminster, but if Scotland was to unilaterally declare independence, what would happen? It would be portrayed as imperialism and would Boris send troops up here? Interesting times.

Ralstonite
Well that's it confirmed then. If the Scottish people don't vote for independence, assuming there is a referendum, then I never, ever want to hear people moan about being governed by Tories, with no mandate in Scotland, again.
Black and White Tragic
Well that's it confirmed then. If the Scottish people don't vote for independence, assuming there is a referendum, then I never, ever want to hear people moan about being governed by Tories, with no mandate in Scotland, again. And so it begins. Not content with "once in a generation" strapline the "never to again be revisited" comes to the fore.I treat my referenda like the Martini ad. I'll vote anytime, anyplace, anywhere. Bring. It. On.

I was surprised that I hadn't seen this until late last night.
