Identify the team

HistoricalKits.co.uk shows that both Dundee United and Vale of Leven used V-style jerseys and white shorts around 1915 or so (Falkirk in the 1920s had the V pattern, but paired with dark shorts, and there's obviously Airdrie, but the 'V' would be darker than the rest of the shirt). Dundee United did win the Forfarshire cup around this time, but the current incarnation of the cup doesn't look like the trophy in the picture.

Not Dundee United, they didn't exist in 1915

I think it is Dundee Hibernian. The cup design could have changed in 100 years.

If it was VoL then the red 'v' would appear black on the orthochrome film used at that time. On the other hand, Dundee Hibs apparently had a white V., so they seem to be ruled out too.

Dundee Utd only seem to have worn Vs from 1913-14 to 1917-18. That isn't the Forfarshire Cup but they did win the Loftus Cup during this period (this was a triangular league tournament for Dundee, Dunfermline and Perth).

There is a team photo from 1913-14 in Dundee Utd's centenary history... I must say that none of the players look the same - though it is poor resolution - nor some featured in the narrative chapter about the war years. Also the V looks whiter and the background colour darker - albeit not so much as to make it inconceivable. I somehow feel like I recognise the chap sitting on the bench furthest right in the above photo (with a teammate leaning on his knee).

Given the background, size of trophy, etc. it could well be 2nd XI or not even a senior club.

Is the back of the photo not stamped in anyway with the mark of a photo store, manufacturer or similar?

Doubt it's Dundee Hibernian as the V was white plus if it was from the period they wore a V strip there would be more than one person in the photo with a moustache and a few of the  trousered ones would be wearing a cap or hat of some sort. Hair styles look more 1920's/early 30's.
