Darren Smith made his senior competitive debut for Berwick Rangers aged 18 in an SFL3 game at Stenhousemuir on Saturday 21st November 1998. He left at end of 2004-05.

Darren came on at HT for Berwick aged 39 in an LL game v Gretna today. He scored the winner!

So he's returned 21yrs after his debut and 14yrs after leaving. If he plays next month he'll have made his debut in 1990s and still been playing for us in 2020s.

Any comparable examples out there?

Ross Tokely made his debut in 1996 and played his last game in 2012, playing for us in all four divisions and over three decades.

Grant Munro made his debut in 1998 and played his last game in 2011, he only played in the top two divisions though.

Derek Lyle made his debut for QoS in 2002. He left briefly in 2004 but returned after about 5 months. He left again in 2006. returned in 2012 and left for a 3rd time in 2018. Doesn't beat Darren Smith but it is longer than both Tokely and Munro.

Willie Gibson made his debut for us in May 2001 as a 16 year old. He left in 2007, returned in 2012 and left again in 2013. He is back at the club now as Reserves manager and likely to feature as a Trialist for the Reserves on Monday, more than 18 years after first playing.

Bobby Geddes was more than 30 years between his first game for Dundee and his last.

His first game was  on 11/9/1979 in an Anglo Scottish Cup tie against Sheffield United at Dens Park.

His last game was on 21/4/2010 in a League match against Raith Rovers when he came on as a sub.

Jim Leighton signed for Aberdeen in 1977 if he played before 1980 he'd have featured in the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s for them.
Just had a look on the excellent Afc Heritage website. Evidently Jimmer made his Dons debut in a 4-1 win at Tynecastle in August 1978.
