Raith vs Airdrie

Recommended Posts

I can’t tell if this chat is tongue in cheek or not so I’m going to completely bypass it.

We have been playing poorly but getting results and keeping clean sheets. Airdrie are flying and have a full strength (I think) squad to choose from. I think whoever gets the first goal will go on to win.

My tongue was firmly in my cheek. Not sure on the others 🤷‍♂️

Disagree...and also he might be part of a back three CB’s with GAndo and MacDonald on the wings...time will tell.

Can only presume you didn't watch the game last week. Mckay at RB kills a huge amount of our attacking threat

But at CB, as part of three back, with wide wing backs, he does just fine.

The question is, are we playing 3 back with MacDonald and (maybe) GAndo as wing backs or a plain four back, where McKay isn't as suited.

As predicted, its a 4-2-3-1. McKay at right back. Dingwall and Gullan have looked lively so far though. The latter had a decent effort come back off the inside of the post.

I don't mind this so much with Anderson on the right of the "3". In theory, it let's him and McKay play as an orthodox fullback-winger partnership, while on the other side Gullan can play inside and MacDonald can use the space.

Quite similar to the Forfar game, this one. Came flying out the traps, created a huge chance, but once the game settled, we've had no ideas.

The game is being played in the twenty yards our side of the halfway line.

The Rovers have had a load of the ball so far, but they put me in mind of the old Mourinho quote about letting the opposition have possession so that they can make mistakes.

McKay looking quite good here with GAndo.

You're being very, very kind. He's had the right intention a couple of times, and his positioning is certainly improving, but I don't think he's actually achieved anything of any note yet. He's still far too lateral.

As I say that, he's just delivered a cross, sort of, which has kind of resulted in a goal.

Say "Aye!" to a Dave McKay.

That goal was very reminiscent of the ones we were scoring right at the start of the season, with the fullbacks combining.

McKay's overhit cross reaches MacDonald who's arriving late, and his drilled cross is deflected into the goal by Matthews.

I certainly don't take McKay for a genius, but his game time is certainly helping his improvement. Good to see the development in him.

An enjoyable half, if not "thrilling". Both sides have had opportunities, but Raith have had the slightly better play. Airdrie look very dangerous on the counter and our wings are causing some real bother for them. Honestly wouldnt be able to complain if it was 1-1, but we missed a couple too. You can tell both sides fear the others potential to break it open.
