Prize Money and Sponsorship

Last night, here in Englandshire, an FA Cup 2nd round game was live on BBC2. Maldon and Tiptree vs. Newport County.

I'd never heard of Maldon before. They play in the 8th tier. They have a neat little ground: one small stand, and grass banking. Average crowd 150. So far, so Highland League.

That's where the resemblance ends. So far this season, they'd made £150,000 from their cup run. Last night they were playing for a 2nd round prize of £54,000, which is much the same as the Scottish Cup Final (£60k?). The English Cup final prize is £3.6 million!

Now I know it's not a fair comparison, but surely the SFA should be able to do a bit better than less than 2% of their big neighbour's sponsorship?

BTW Maldon lost to a goal in the 91st minute.  But they got another £75,000 from the BBC.

You live in London, the Isthmian League catchment area, the league that Maldon & Tiptree play. They'd beaten Orient in the last round, but you'd never heard of them. Do you not follow football that closely?
