Macdonar
Hi All I am researching the history of the Northern Nomads FC - an amateur team who were based in North West England and who became quite well known in the early 20th century, as the Corinthians of the North. I know they played the annual New Years Day game with Queen Park FC for several years, but I have found reference to them travelling to Inverness to play a benefit game in April 1910. Can anyone confirm if this happened, whether it was against Thistle or Citadel, the score or the teams, please? Any info would be gratefully appreciated
paulc
Northern Nomads played Citadel on Saturday 23 April. Highland News 23/4/1910 states Nomads were to play in the Rosebery colours and "are to be represented by several retired exponents of the game." The Northern Chronicle 27/4/1910 reported "the Citadel and Northern Nomads (a combination of old players) played a friendly game at Telford Street ground on Saturday afternoon. The game was pleasantly contested and created a good deal of laughter. Amid great cheering from their "supporters" the Nomads won by 4 goals to 3."
