I know you now live in Germany but it’s bizarre that a guy from Fife who I think only moved there a while back just randomly throws in German names for things on a Scottish football message board. However, I didn't know the English name for it and infact never had it until I came over here, hence the lack of the English name Fennel.

Crash diets are of course never the answer and are unsustainable so I tried to make a small number of changes that i could maintain, which were: Binning fizzy drinks. Even though I drank low cal stuff it bloats you like f**k Swapping a breakfast of cereal and toast for a bowl of 200g mixed fruit and 150g strawberry Skyr. Tastes lovely and is low in fat and high in protein Lunches are generally a chicken and bean wrap which is high in protein and a smaller version of breakfast for after Evening meals were largely unchanged as we were already eating reasonably healthy for those, we changed changed from having a takeaway every Friday to one a month. By and large this boiled down to around 1200 cals a day, leaving a bit spare for wee snacks and coffees through the day so I've never felt ravenous as I probably would have done had i tried a fad diet. Prior to this I was still exercising regularly (80-100 miles a week on the bike, gym twice a week) but on those days I'd eat more unhealthy stuff because I'd exercised. Lockdown meant I could up my weekly bike miles to about 125-150 but I didn't change much else. Overall it's worked fairly well. I've dropped to 12St 7 since then and various other stats such as body fat % etc etc are also much improved. 1200 calories a day sounds really low and not particularly healthy, particularly if you do plenty exercise?

Should have made it clearer that the 1200ish is core meals only Breakfast: 223 Lunch: 420ish Tea: 500-600 By the time I factor in random nibbles through the day, protein snacks, bananas (and energy gels if exercising) it's around 2000-2100. Rest days (2 a week) will be 1700-1800. My weekly exercise bursts are pretty short - usually Zwift sessions at 50-90 mins each, maybe a run of 4 miles if the weather isn't shite. If it's been something particularly intensive I'll have a protein recovery drink or a bottle of Huel - not often though. Normally just fire straight into tea after training. If I'm doing something with mental calorie burn like a lengthy hillwalk I'll take a load of extra food. It may seem a low figure but it's not adversely affecting fitness as far as i can tell. This will mean f**k all to non cyclists but in six months my Functional Threshold Power has gone from 173W to 223W, I'm running at a better pace now than I was 10 years when i ran pretty regularly, and climbing hills just feels way easier than it used to. Other than a couple of minor calf strains getting back into the running I haven't been injured either.
