MINCE PIE WATCH 2019: Asda Extra Special Luxury Mince Pies

Every year, every fucking year, Asda go and “do an Asda”. They always have to spoil things with their lies. These aren’t luxury mince pies. They’re wee, stunted, incredibly crumbly, and poorly baked. Very tasty filling though.

2019 Pie Score: 3

The 2019 List

Marks & Spencer Mince Pies - 7.5/10

Pret A Manger Mince Pies - 7.5/10

Waitrose Plum, Honey and Ginger Mince Pie - 7/10

Asda Extra Special Crumble Mince Pies - 6.5/10

Asda Extra Special Luxury Sloe Gin Mince Pies - 6/10

Asda Extra Special Luxury Mince Pies - 3/10

Asda Extra Special Deep Filled Mince Pies - 2/10

I do enjoy a Christmas Mince Pie. Nicely warmed through and maybe even a dollop of double cream. However, Mrs SL has just shown me a recipe which adds coarsely grated Cheddar cheese and Parmesan to cider & apple mincemeat. That is truly an abomination. Cheese in a mince pie? I think not.

Cups are for drinking out of. Not measuring ingredients.

I'm not sure Big Gus will be happy at someone else doing a pie review.

Were the checkout girls in their teens and possibly under age?

Bought 6 Holly Lane ones from Aldi the other week, would have been better binning the pies and eating the box.

A good mince pie should be laden with sherry and be made with puff pastry not shortcrust.

1000% yes.

My gran used to make these, I miss them...really must try and find the recipe

On a par with being asked to be in Gary Glitters gang this.

Mozza likes grannies.
