HibeeJibee
Tidying-up earlier I came on an old SWFA Senior League Handbook for 1998-99. Makes for interesting reading, especially the weird and wonderful variety of clubs. How many of these are still running? Premier Division (10) Aberdeen Ladies Ayr United [Stevenston] Clyde Ladies [Glasgow] Cove Rangers Ladies Cumbernauld United Ladies Giuliano's Ladies [Cambuslang] Monklands Ladies Preston Athletic Ladies Stewarton Thistle Stirling Albion Ladies North Division (11) Aberdeen Academical Ladies D'Arcy Rovers Ladies [Leith] Dundee Utd Ladies Elgin Ladies Forfar Farmington Ladies Girls [Perth] Glenrothes Ladies Highland Portland Ladies [Inverness] Kemnay Ladies St Johnstone Ladies Whitehill Welfare West Region (11+2) Albion Rovers Ladies Baillieston Juniors Ladies Central Ladies [Stirling] East Kilbride Glasgow Western Giffnock North Amateur Ladies Greenock Morton Ladies Hamilton Academical Ladies Livingston Ladies Ladies of Renfrew County [Elderslie] Motherwell Rovers Ladies + Glasgow City Ladies + Queen of the South
craigkillie
Stewarton Thistle became FC Kilmarnock Ladies, which I think is the same club as the current Killie women's team. They reached the English FA Cup final in the 1970s. Edited November 2, 2019 by craigkillie
HibeeJibee
Interesting to note that out of 34 teams only 11 were SPL/SFL clubs... and only a few of those big clubs, mostly in the north east. Plus in those days many used the name but had no official linkup, support or funding. Nowadays most sit within historical mens clubs, often via absorption e.g. Arsenal North > Celtic; Preston > Hibs; Paisley > Rangers; Hamilton Athletic > Hamilton; Musselburgh > Hearts; Stewarton > Kilmarnock; Weir > Partick; Jeanfield > St Johnstone; various > Aberdeen; Kirkland > East Fife; etc.
