Cummins looks a cert and, no doubt, lots of the lying cabal who repetitively spouted the "get brexit done", "it's oven ready" and "dither" soundbites during the campaign will also be in line. Mundell has changed his narrative on a few occasions to meet de pfeffellll's requirements and, by doing so, has backtracked on his original promises to Scotland - notwithstanding these were written for him by westminster. He's been hanging on for his ermine robe for a few years now. Carlaw has done similar, so he might be "rewarded" for his loyalty. Maybe one or two of de pfeffelll's extra curricular activities, a la mone of mayfair (aye, ah ken) with cameron, will be bought for their burying of the evidence. He was endorsed by the membership as a Militant hangover vanity project from the 80s, playing all the old tunes. He was never electable as a PM though, despite the 12 million votes etc in 2017. Constant vilification from the press admittedly didnt help, but Kinnock, Miliband and Brown in particular were also trashed by the right wing media. Had Labour instead gone for either Andy Burnham or Yvette Cooper, they would have stood on a more centrist manifesto in 2017 and I reckon wiped the floor with the Maybot. The political landscape would therefore have been different now. They will learn this time, that a 'left wing' ticket will never work in England. The Blair govts had many faults but they were adept at hoovering up soft Tory votes to the extent that they dominated traditional Tory areas in many parts across three elections. Big spending on public services is morally justifiable but is always open to accusations by 'natural' Tories of bankrupting the country. Guest Jedi Posted December 13, 2019 Share Posted December 13, 2019 Don't think that they could have entered the 17 election going for a 2nd Ref, they would have had to have put Brexit through, but it would have been a much softer version with staying in the customs union and single market, some form of Norway deal. As we have now seen a 2nd Ref campaign was never going to fly in England, no matter who the Labour or Lib Dem leader was (though Swinson was obviously a particular disaster). I'm not sure that May would have resisted an election in 17 had it been a more 'credible' Labour leader, as she would absolutely stuck on Brexit, and would still have been forced into holding a GE. We would be sitting now with that Norway style arrangement, and a more centrist Lab govt. Ironically of course, it would have made the SNP's task a lot more difficult to call a 2nd Ref in those circumstances, as ultimately it needed a hard right Tory Brexit which we have now, to shore up support here. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
