Tales of P&B Past

you searching up ‘West Coast’ on a map provides no valid evidence that Greenock is on the West Coast when companies going by that name are present in Wishaw, Paisley and Central Glasgow.

- I am not using using this particular piece as direct stand alone evidence to prove that Greenock is bang on the West Coast, otherwise you would have to say that Greenock is also in China because of 'China Carry Out' & 'China Inn'.  The point of that map image was to show that local association exists, as it seems to do with some in Glasgow, maybe even Wishaw.

Now although that alone doesn't prove that Greenock has to be on the West Coast, it is very obvious what must be nearby for the term to be used so frequently, especially mostly along the Firth of Clyde area.  The fact that such companies are actually writing "Greenock is a west coast town", as highlighted in that same post, removes the ambiguity.   Therefore, in this particular sub-argument, the claim that the West Coast is far, far away from Greenock is dismissed.

Simply picking and choosing which of these companies you want to include in your argument is enough to prove it invalid as well.

- A level of reasoning has to be applied.  As an extreme hypothetical example,  if somebody said Cowdenbeath was not in Fife 'because they said so', then it would be fair to highlight the presence of firms and organisations with Fife in the name as part of the counter argument. The fact there's a Fife Arms pub in Moray doesn't suddenly invalidate that.

As for Oakley and Cowdungbeath, they may consider themselves East Coasters (I have no idea if they do or not)

- They do.  I used to live in that area (nicer parts thankfully).

they definitely aren’t on the East Coast, regardless of how nearby the East Coast may be (not actually that near to Cowdungbeath which is quite inland).

- To be an 'East-Coaster', you don't have to live right beside the water.  Similar applies to the west where the inhabitants of Weegieland get referred to as West Coasters (because they live in the region relatively adjacent to the West Coast), hence how this thing was sparked.

There's a difference between being in the East/West of Scotland and being on the East/West coast. Cowdenbeath is not on the East coast.

Edinburgh's in the East of Scotland and on the Firth of Forth. London's on the Thames, not the East coast.

For complete avoidance of doubt, I am not suggesting this, unless Mossmorran has recently melted the land away down to what would be an aptly named Burntisland.

We've had:

"Gutted for you"
"Swing and a miss"
"Thanks for playing anyway"
"Champ"
And an Ainsley photo.

Is that a full house in virginton's bullshit bingo?

We need word salad

Nope, we had that one already.

Remaining:  zero pointer & scrambling for relevance.

Annoyed that I never thought to refer to the cinema as the Greenock box office though.  <_<

Which obviously leads onto the biggest one:  How far can the East Coast Mainline go inland before it ceases to be East Coast Mainline and becomes just 'the Mainline'?

Markinch, Cupar and Laurencekirk demand answers.

Eta: Just remembered that Wishaw is beside the West Coast mainline.  The plot thickens.

So the answer to that is, you have absolutely no evidence to guarantee anything. Thanks for that.

That was merely to do with the subjective side.  The robust geographical facts have previously been discussed.

All this begs the question, why would people from Greenock prefer to be associated with the minks from their East rather than the minks from their West?

Weegies in denial.  We know it, they know it.
