Hearts v Rangers Sunday 20th Oct, 12:15

Not necessarily his biggest fan, but I'm intrigued as to why you choose to call him 'backwards'. I'd criticise him for many things, but I don't think I'd say he's backwards, especially not in the context of Scottish football..

Have you watched the way he has Hearts playing?

Sends talented young midfielder out on loan and plays ‘punt it long to Uche’.

Backwards as f**k.

I think that's an unfair simplification of Levein as a manager.

The football at the moment is not pretty, no arguing. But I think some leeway is required in that regard due to the number of players we've been missing. But I think the main reason for that style of football at the moment is that our recruitment has been so utterly shocking that he doesn't trust the team to play any other way.

Of course, he's part of the recruitment process and shares that blame, but I don't think it makes him backwards.

Levein has a more than decent record of giving young players a chance and his embracing of the Cathro gamble shows that he is prepared to try new things and to go against the grain.

He was also the first Scotland manager for a while to take a serious look at how we identify players and to put a real effort into modernising the scouting system around the national team.

Levein is not doing a good job but I think there are many, many people in Scottish football who should be labelled backwards before he is.

That's actually an outdated myth on how we're playing just now. The long balls come on the occasions the opposition press and make us pass to Berra but the big issue with our play at the moment is backwards and sideways passing with no real attacking solution. We can't break teams down if the impetus is on us to attack.

Cochrane was stagnating as well, he needs consistent game time with less pressure.

Cochrane was stagnating because of Levein’s tactics IMO, but on the whole I’m only basing my opinion on what I’ve seen of Hearts on TV to be honest. However in my circle of friends and work colleagues, Hearts fans are the most well represented and half a dozen are season ticket holders whose opinions are much the same as mine. I actually can’t remember the last time a Monday morning in the office wasn’t spent listening to Levein-out rants.

Based on what? It's basically humiliation porn when we play bottom six clubs, never mind ones that can actually knock it about a bit. bQshDtu.png

Small pitch with not a lot of space and the fans right on top of the players would be the two biggest reasons. Plus we were lucky in the 2-1 win last season.

I’m admittedly having a bit of an Alessio love in just now after the Welsh Summer of Pain but when you think about Hearts resources and the players they’ve been able to bring in + the role Levein plays I wonder how well AA would do at a club like Hearts.  Clearly he is a head coach rather than a manager and I think he would be a perfect fit.

There’s only a small amount of people I would trust to do worse than Levein this, even with the injuries we’ve had.

Under-achievement is the Hearts way. I doubt that it really matters who we bring in. We'll find a way to not quite get to where we should be.

Hearts could appoint Pep Guardiola and sections of the home support would be demanding the ball be humped into the opposition box from 70yards!

Is that the section known as ‘the directors box’ where the only fans of Levein’s 70 yard hoofball sit?

Be good to have Uche and Haring back if they're fit - other than that, I'm struggling to name eleven players that merit a start.

Pereira

Smith - Dikamona - Berra - Hickey

Meshino -Haring - Whelan - White

Ikpeazu - Keena

Subs: Doyle, Brandon, Bozanic, Clare, MacLean, Damour, Mulraney?

Maybe more likely to be a back three and one striker, mind.

Look forward to standing in the freezing rain watching us get turned over - great.

Aidy White is murder, I'd have Mulraney in there before him any day.

Not really seen enough of White. tbh, and he's still making his comeback from injury.

After the last game, Levein said there would be changes - his hands are tied a bit due to injuries - let's see - Morrison could play too, I suppose, but he's also coming back from injury.

I dont think he needs to say there is going to be changes, dont think he's fielded the same team back to back all season.

Too much negativity in here. We're only 5 points off 7th place, or something. And we're only 5 1/2 years into the 5 year plan. And we've got players who haven't kicked a ball in months ready to get thrown under a bus into the team tomorrow. Come on. guys. Let's look on the bright side.
