Ayr United vs Caley Thistle

Recommended Posts

5 wins on the bounce for us and a huge game here. We’ve struggled against Inverness for as long as I can remember and this will likely be the same.

Hopefully Kerr is fit for this one as there’s no real reason to make any changes here.

A sterner test.

The highland hammer throwers always cause us problems. I assume ICT are in the same mould this season? A first 11 all over 6 foot and shelling long balls forward?

Interesting that Ayr are a better side without Shankland giving lie to the belief they were a one player team. Could they be an even better team without McCall in charge? The uncertainty that the club has hit the glass ceiling and been taken as far as it can go will be on the minds of every Ayr supporter, how much longer will this purple patch in the club's history go on for?

Glass ceilings are there to be broken.

Hard game for us after the poor performance against McCall's new team, we have to prove we have what it takes to be a genuine challenger for automatic promotion and keep up with Ayr and the one player team from Dundee.

At home despite good results coming down here we will be the underdogs for this.

Interesting to see if Sandy Stewart can do what McCall couldn't do and get a result against our Highland friends first game since QotS for me so fair looking forward to this. Cally always bring a noisy support if not the biggest. Same team as the last few weeks for me if Kerr is fit, going for a hard fought 2-1victory got the honest men.

Ayr have spent a fair chunk of their history near the top of this league or in the one above it.

Not every club’s history is confined to the last 25 years.

Players have certainly stepped up in his absence. Eight different goalscorers in the league already, and a few from our midfield, which we were lacking last season.

Wouldn't have you as underdogs for this game, considering our dismal record against you.

Our record v them is woeful, but let’s be honest if shite like Partick can beat them up there at home there is no reason we can’t win in our own backyard. 2-0

Think you’re looking into that one a bit much. We too have a woeful record against Partick and we got them at the worst time possible. I think this will be a close game that goes either way tbh. We’re also better away than at home.

The difference (for me at least) this season versus last is, in order of importance -

1. Alan Forrest has been absolutely superb and has managed to avoid injury so far. He missed a large part of the last two seasons and on reflection, we've missed him. Look out against the hammer throwers, wee man.

2. Luke McCowan continues to suggest he should have been playing in the first team long before he was introduced late last season - a real handful for any opposition defence.

3. Stephen Kelly is a big improvement on Robbie Crawford even though Robbie had some great games last season. Kelly is just far more consistent and a much bigger goal threat. A wonderful prospect.

4. Danny Harvie has discovered what confidence can do when added to a player's obvious potential. He's destined for even more success.

5. Ross Docherty has fully recovered from injury and pulls on the armband like a true captain . Like a new marque signing .

6. Our new rookie centre half has settled in well and can score goals ...

History is all very well but its all about the here and now or next.

Didn't McCall leave Somerset because he felt he had taken Ayr as far as he could where as Partick he saw he could take them into the top flight?

Is this McCall realising his own true limitations as a manager with Ayr Utd or the true limitations of Ayr Utd as a club?

Nice fishing expedition. As a member of International Rescue, McCall left Ayr on a mercy mission to help a poor, stricken club.

You’re the one who brought up history mate, not me.

I have no idea why you are getting all defensive, do you not like supporters of other clubs asking questions of yours?

I'm all for an Ayr Utd promotion as long as we go up to and at the expense of the shambles one man team.

See Somerset Boab is returning on Saturday apparently, that's one extra fan to add to the usual attendance lol.

Obviously fell out with McCall or didn't agreee about something with him but don't know what, can't be much of a hardcore fan though when he'll not support the club during its best years in recent history over some petty spat.

I heard a story Roberts used to give him dressing room access and McCall told him to do one total hearsay of course
