Ayr United’s Next Permanent Manager

This logic doesn't make any sense. A club being interested in signing one of your players doesn't mean their (ex-)manager is interested in joining you.

Jordan Jones left us for Rangers in the summer but that doesn't mean Steven Gerrard will be interested in the Killie job any time soon.

Well aside from the fact that he'd have to enter your midden more than any sane person deserves, he's clearly not going to go to a team in the same league.

I'm trying, poorly, to compare League 1 in England with the Scottish Championship, perhaps not in terms of the prize money or size of stadiums for the likes of Ipswich or Sunderland, but in terms of the latent talent of the players he'd be working with each day on the training field and he'd get more time to do his job as well.

The gulf isn't as big as you'd immediately think.

If Jim McIntyre gets the job we're as well planning for trips to Methil and Airdrie sooner rather than later.

There's deluded and then there's you.

So you’re saying that the gulf between L1 and the Scottish Championship isn’t that big and that for this reason Jack Ross would consider a move to Ayr?

First off, the gulf is pretty big.

But that’s entirely irrelevant when you consider that Sunderland are a massive club compared to Ayr. The only two clubs he’d even consider in this league would be the Dundee clubs and that’s because they should be in the Premiership and can provide him with the resources to get there.

I don’t disagree with your point on McIntyre though. Albeit we’ll be in League One within the next 5 years anyway unless someone buys us.

Ross would do a decent job for us but it won’t happen

Can see Goodwin getting the chop soon and Ross going back to St Mirren

Ross won't take that backward step IMO  , Goodwin will get more time he only needs to keep them up and he is secure , early days

I've seen plenty of league 1 games , this season and last. Believe me the gulf in standard of play isn't as big as you'd think.

Kept you absolute no marks in the top flight season after season so can’t be that bad.

We scraped staying up in spite of Canning for most of the time he was in charge due to other clubs being absolute basket cases on the field those seasons.

Had we not sacked him in January we'd be playing yourselves this season - so good luck if Canning gets the job [emoji23]

As for us being 'no marks' we've been in the top flight for 9 of the last 12 seasons.

When were Ayr last in the top flight?

Played abysmal football at Sunderland.

Thats a bit harsh go them into a final and the play off final.yes lost both by fine margins . wait and see if the next manager can do any better . didn't give him enough time down there sad . but he will get a top flight job up here to probs first manager to go he will get it

They've lost fewer games since he was appointed than any team in the English leagues except Man City & Liverpool. It's crazy they moved on at this stage.

0% chance Ayr can pay what he'd want.

It really isn't harsh or crazy at all. Look at the squad he has - Aiden McGeady, Will Grigg, Grant Leadbitter etc, as well as a massive budget for that division.

As for the fact they have lost fewer games than everyone bar Man City and Liverpool, that is an incredibly deceptive statistic as about 28 of those games were draws. He hasn't earned more time at Sunderland, nor has he earned a Premiership job up here as some are suggesting.

Ayr’s last top flight game was on April 29th 1978. 15138 days have passed since then. Lady Di was still single and Thatcher had not yet hatched as prime minister. The teleprinter was still typing out results on black and white TV’s.
