Away Ticket Pricing

Hearts fans' defensiveness about their board's Tory tactics never gets old.

Tynecastle has a particularly wide variation in prices from the cheap seats to the expensive one

Depending on your political leanings you can see this  as a stereotypical Edimbourgoise class ridden social stratification thing or as a Marxist "From each according to their ability" thing.

Appreciate the response so far from everyone. Some of the numbers and stories make for harrowing reading (particularly my own club). Can folk keep this updated with prices they are charged and anything else they would like to add.

It's about time we stood up to the price increases.

I have seen a few say "talk with your feet" etc, and whilst it would undoubtedly work, i know from experience and from knowing the fan base in general, a boycott of such would never work at Celtic. Not least because if the normal punters you see every week dont take their tickets, you can can bet there will be someone in behind who will, and suddenly you start to lose your record. Regardless though, being loyal shouldn't be punished, and just because you will doesn't mean you should pay these prices, so hopefully we can get something going that all clubs will buy into.

Should be a £20 cap on away ticket prices and an agreed percentage of the ground available for away fans.

I've said that for years but even under Delia when Celtic had sections closed off all season, the away fans were still stuck in that corner.

£20 maximum for category B games, £25 maximum for category A games, £30 for good seats at a cup final.

Boards across Scotland have worked out that a sizeable % of fans will pay the extra £3-£8 on an away ticket. I reckon in doing this, they might be losing out on about 200 or so more away fans, so let's do the maths.

500 away fans paying £26 = £13,000.

700 away fans paying £20 = £14,000.

So slightly more money from option 2, but I'd guess the extra people might bring extra stewarding/policing costs.

Also, something else to consider that people don't talk enough about. Lower ticket prices tend to attract the sort of people that boardrooms (particularly tories like Budge) do not want in a football stadium. Neither do Police Scotland, for that matter. The fewer people going to football and potentially causing trouble, the better - in their eyes.

It really is up to the fans, we have a lot of power when we vote with our feet. Rangers got sent packing to the bottom tier because fans told the boards that they wouldn't be buying season tickets if they let them back in. If similar unity was shown on this issue (maybe even a couple of mid-game protests etc.), I think some sort of measure would be brought in soon enough.

I remember when I used to go to Parkhead back when we were SPL and the price was a fair bit cheaper if you bought restricted view.

You then just sat where you liked.

I assume Celtic have caught onto this and only drop the price a little for RV.

I also remember playing Celtic just after the Old firm and some seats were missing. Fans were told to still sit on them even though they weren't there.

I witnessed the same happening with Hearts fans.

Celtic really were the most tight-fisted scummy club back then. Treated visiting fans like shite.

I haven't been back for years so I've no idea if they are any better now.

When the prices started to sneak above the £20 mark, it then started to get beyond the value for money barrier. We are now talking about getting little to no change from £30 a some grounds. That is probably the breaking point for me.

You add in travel, food and beers and you’re getting to the thick end of £100 for an afternoon. You then add in your evening socialising and it’s becomes an expensive weekend.

£20 is the marker for me and it’s way beyond that now.
Pick and choose matches these days!

So you are happy to spend over £100 for your afternoon but think £20 should be the most you pay for the football????

I am sure there is some logic to this.  Maybe just have a couple of beers less.

Had no idea that ticket prices were so expensive in the country, I tend to go home (season ticket) & away all the time in division 1 but at around £15 its difficult to say if its good value, anything over £25 for the Premier League seems like daylight robbery for the general standard on show.

Out of Interest will Motherwell and St Johstone Fans who buy their £29 seats for Tynecastle have to pay the same £1.50 Ticketmaster booking fee that walk up home fans pay?

Takes it over £30. So I’m out if that’s the case.
