Embarrassing performance.

Parking the the bus at home to a bang average side.

At international football you need to be able to keep possession under pressure and that will never happen as long as we play people like McGinn and McTominay ahead of the likes of Christie.

Anyone got any theory on why our strongest area of the team seem to be very weak these days (away to kazak was unbelievable considering the players)? We were overrun at the point where we should be dominating.

Mcburnie and o Donnell are pish but they have everything last night and were better than any alternative. Robertson had a bit of a mare. Keeper saved us from worse.

It's unreal how often that striker was able to bring the ball down unchallenged from a high ball. Not just winning headers, fucking bringing it down on his chest.

I have full faith the manager will get it right but there's not many positives to come from that game.

See my post a couple below this one, centre backs continually backing off and dropping rather than actually going to challenge for the ball and be aggressive. I'm not expecting them to win every header, but at least prevent him gaining control of the ball easily instead of backing off and allow him to control and turn.

It's a Steven Clark side, what did people expect?

Anyone who pointed out when he was appointed that at this level you need to be able to play football was immediately shouted down.

I'd just like to take a moment to pay tribute to the guy two along from me who spent the entire night berating "Allan McGregor" in goals.

Even when not playing it's all Sevco's fault, same with a lot of people scapegoating Ryan Jack last night.

The Scottish Premiership and the English Championship are so far off tiers 1 & 2 of international football it's not true.  Don't let anyone tell you different.

Of the guys that are actually playing at the top level McGinn and Robertson invariable get smoke blown up their arse but have been terrible for Scotland.

McTominay gets a game off the reputation of being a Manchester United player but Manchester United are a joke club these days.

That leaves you with Ryan Fraser.

Does Ryan Fraser get you to major Finals?  Doubt it.

Nothing changes for us until we have a strong domestic league again like we had in the 80's and 90's.  Forget your Baxters and Johnstones, it's no coincidence that the golden period for the Scotland nation team was when we had managers of the calibre of Ferguson and McLean in the league, provincial clubs challenging the Glasgow clubs and an overall very strong domestic league.  The calibre of manager in the Scottish Premiership is risible.  Even the so called top guys who get congratulated for churning out mince season after season.

The whole psychological mindset of Scottish football today is - you can't win, you can't challenge, just get by, just do enough.  It's so deeply infected into the national psyche of our game we will never challenge again until we can lift ourselves out of that defeatist mire.  This mediocre Celtic team has a treble treble and yet got pumped at home by Cluj.  That tells you everything.  It's a disgrace that it's happened.  The standard of our league is at an all time low.

Germany completely rehauled their game.  That's what we need to do.  But we won't because our game is run by gibbons.  Look at the disaster that is Project Brave/Reserve League football for what this bunch of clowns are capable of.

I go and watch Motherwell every week and for years and years most of the players can't do basics like pass, cross, positional awareness, defend a set piece.  It's dire.  And we are a midtable club who just beat Hibs 3-0.  And you might think what's that got to do with Scotland?  Well it's everything to do with Scotland.  Cos this is the standard of our football these days.

The fact that Steve Clark did so well taking a relegation haunted Kilmarnock, applying just a little bit of coaching, and then transforming them tells you how bad the rest are.

We have a decent manager in place and a recognised world class player.  But it's still nowhere near good enough.  The whole standard of our game has to be raised and nothing will change until that's done.

Why can’t we produce forwards of quality and where are we going to get them from. I was berated on the mcburnie thread saying he wasn’t answer but i kept being told he is a 20 million striker which means nothing as reality is he is worth about a tenth of that.

Hanging a hat on a Griffiths come back is still concerning as he still seems to be finding his way again in club football after his problems.

People will always refer to the england goals understandably but he can’t dine out on them forever.

He is also 29 which in scottish terms is younger than it sounds but we need to get looking towards the future.

We need to getting searching for goalscoring forwards not this he is not in the team for goals routine that we seem to be continuing again.

O'Donnell, Cooper, and McBurnie are not good enough. Unfortunately we don't have better than O'Donnell unless we go down the route of playing Tierney there.

Desperately missed McKenna last night. Would be good if we could get Griffiths back in also. Or maybe Sammy Cosgrove has a Scottish granny.

Thing is maybe we're over rating SPL players? It's a really poor league, as seen with the european results (cluj etc). But we still act like McGregor Christie Forrest etc are world beaters
Do we? [emoji848]. I think we all know the Scottish Prem isn't the best for quality.

Our best form for about a decade came from Strachan putting all the Scots from the Celtic team that was performing so well at the time.

Robertson, McTominey, McGinn, have all been piss poor for Scotland this campaign, the guys playing at a higher level haven't exactly set the best example.

A few folk on here saying Russia are bang average.

Their FIFA ranking is distorted due to them playing only friendlies in the run up to the World cup. A world cup in which they were a penalty shoot out away from reaching the semi final.

They're not a top side, but are one of the better tier 2 teams and are better than average. Although, they are the sort of side we need to beat at home to if we hope to qualify for tournaments.

Russia were streets ahead of us last night in so many areas it was embarrassing and 1-2 flattered us. Our weaknesses have been highlighted over the last few pages, it has been the same old shite for 20+ years.

Why can’t we produce footballers to a decent standard? The whole game needs a complete shake up from grassroots right through to the SFA and SPFL. Germany did it and reaped the rewards so why can’t we? Until something changes then we will continue to regress.

The lack of ability in our team to keep the ball is frightening. McGregor and O’Donnell in particular were very wasteful in possession. McGregor’s set pieces were a disgrace.

McBurnie was left isolated and Clarke’s tactics were to launch long balls up to him. With no support near him that was never going to work. Clarke got that all wrong.

On a positive note, Marshall had a very good game. It’s good to have a strong goalie after the failed Bain disaster.

Clearly we are trying to do these reforms over the last 10 years. The McLeish Report, the performance schools, Project Brave (love it or loathe it) are all geared towards fixing our game.

What an absolute minter of a team

Last night after the game, you had players coming out and saying they froze after going into the lead.

These are professional football players, who are well paid. I'm afraid that is just completely unacceptable.

I'm almost done with this Scotland team.

Clarke says 1pt against Belgium on Monday would suffice to keep qualifying hopes alive.

If we assume Russia beat Kazakhstan at home (and they've already beaten them 4-0 away) we'd find ourselves 9pts behind Belgium, 8pts behind Russia and trailing Kazakhstan on head-to-head, with 4 games left.

Can anyone actually plot a series of conceivable results... not involving some San Marino heroics... where that could be recovered?
