Somewhere to go to keep drinking. Its not exactly Vegas.

I havent noticed the drinks are much more expensive. Probably when pints were 2.50 Certainly nothing much more than what you will pay in city centre pubs these days.

If you join the casino when you go in, you'll probably get a card that gives you a discount. Drinks are definitely not that expensive ... while they're not allowed to ply you with free alcohol, they keep the alcohol at a reasonable price in the hope that you'll spunk all your cash away on the tables / slots.

I never seem to get in them, even when I'm in reasonable nick. The bouncers just don't like my face I suppose, hard to blame them.

Probably not the best idea to gamble when steaming.

I went to the Grand National a few years back and we were staying in Blackpool for the weekend, so on the Friday night we ended up in a casino next to our hotel as my mate fancied a game of poker. I was only really concerned about getting a few pints and watching the boxing (AJ was fighting Martin) but it really does entice you in I think, especially after an all day drinking session (during which I'd thrown £100 on a horse that fell at the second hedge).

I eventually sat down at the roulette table for a few turns, I was well scooped by this point and had watched the number 27 come in quite a few times, so I decided to throw a quid on 27 alone and the rest on red and the fucker came in. I know this might sound like a "didn't happen" but I landed 27 three times that evening, I couldn't believe it myself. My pal eventually came over from the poker table and he had won too, the celebrations were in full flow. The good thing is that you don't ever need to move or queue for a drink as long as you're gambling in some form - I enjoyed that aspect too much I think.

Anyway, we went to the Grand National in joyous spirits and with pockets full of cash. Spanked the lot on shite £8 pints and useless horses that I assume are now in a Findus lasagne somewhere. A great weekend, but if I ever needed to prove to myself that gambling (and probably drinking) was a mugs game, that weekend was it.

Myself and a mate were over €1000 up between us on the blackjack tables in Vienna one night. We’d taken €100 each and agreed to split any potential winnings. The later the night went the more drunk we got and eventually left with nothing, or so we thought. I got home and found over €100 worth of casino chips in my trouser pocket I’d be wearing that evening.

I’ve still got them and intend to go back and spend them at some point.

I've been in the Dundee casino a few times. It's alright and the food isn't bad either. Always thought there was a musty kind of smell though. Not sure if that's just me/ particular to that casino, or if they all smell like that

The casino in Dundee takes milk tokens and cashes giros. It's hardly Monte Carlo.

Last time I was in a casino was in London around 18 months back. We had watched a gig in Highgate, missed the last train home, so just went into the casino for a few hours for some food and a few more beers. Drink was reasonably priced, and food was alright.

Couldn't believe how many elderly women were in playing the slots though.

I haven't been to the "new" casino in Dundee but did go to the old one "The Chevalier" a few times.  Beer was about 80p a pint.  That was in 1983 though so it's probably a bit dearer now.

Grosvenor is a strange, strange place. If your pished and/or on a trip, the lighting will 100% f**k with your head.

Yes, it's a bit more expensive than pubs. Think nightclub prices. Meals are decent.

Early morning it's full of arseholes that don't get in clubs and just go there to carry on the night - there's usually a scrap. In fact, there's a video of fat Alec getting punched silly at the Weekend just past going around just now.

Used to work in Casinos many years ago. They have changed quite a bit since then. Used to have a 48 hour cooling off period for membership so you couldn’t just walk up drunk one night and do all your cash. There was no alcohol allowed on the gaming floor and they used to close at 4am.
It started changing around the millennium regarding opening hours, membership restrictions and Alcohol. There was a general easing up of overall gambling laws at the time. Another change was being able to gamble with credit cards which had never previously been allowed.
I have not been in a Casino for years, but don’t expect it to be like a James Bond movie unless you go to one of the Mayfair Casinos in the Big Smoke.

Food is on a par with Spoons. Drink's a wee bit dearer but worthwhile if you're in after-hours.

Had a couple of decent wins in Dundee Grosvenor - offset by numerous losses. Play for fun, set a limit and stick to it. Don't play the auto roulette.
