Morning all. With a lack of top flight action of the weekend, this weeks piece touches on bumping into Ally McCoist, & a Wednesday afternoon trip to Dumbarton.

Nice wee piece.  I used to live in Dumbarton and would go along to games when St.Mirren were playing away. Great place for football. The views from the stand must be one of the best views in Scottish football At the old Boghead ground fans used to swap ends at half time which was unusual and great.  When you talk about the Albion I assume that you mean West Bromwich Albion.   Don't know if you were aware of this match...

Finally, the friendly arranged with West Bromwich Albion was in celebration of the 'world championship' match between WBA and Renton in 1888. with Dumbarton winning the Renton Centenary Trophy after the 2-1 victory. (wikipedia Dumbarton F.C. 1988-1989 season).

Thanks for the reply Mitch, glad you liked my piece.

I'm a Burton Albion fan, but yes have heard about that game between Renton and WBA. My grandad played bowls at Renton for a while, it's hard to imagine a small place like that once had a top football team!

We used to swap ends in the non-league days, part of football I miss now we're in the football league.

My dad went to a few St Mirren games when he was in the navy, early 80's, I'll have to get some memories of him.

Yes population of 2000 , some achievement. Celtic took their captain Kelly. It is rumoured that he was the first professional player in Scotland. His family went on to become a Celtic dynasty in terms of running the club. The Renton  club didn't last for much longer as a football force sorry to say.
