welshbairn
Just started watching this, binged the first 4 episodes of series 1 last night. Are they trying to satirise the Murdochs by filming it like a daytime soap opera? Not sure if I'd keep watching if they kill Brian Cox off, him and his wife kept me going last night.
Detournement
That was a good episode but I hope they start to film more on location as it's a bit samey when they are just sat in various rooms doing their schtick. It's obviously a Covid problem as is the fact it's 2019 on the show whereas previously it felt as if they were in the same news/media sphere as us. Cousin Greg obviously stole the show and his grandpa being in it more would be class. Peter Reigert hitting a Sopranos- Succession double as the lawyer was good as well. I can't think if anyone else has done that? No one wanted to stick with Kendall. Connor wants to be in his safe fantasy land, Roman wants Logan's approval and Shiv realises he is just havering absolute shite. Also nuce to see Tom getting into his creepy weirdo zone after being on edge last week. Edited October 26, 2021 by Detournement
J_Stewart
The rolling in of the Trojan Horse and the various characters reactions to it (Greg's especially) was tremendous. Huge fan of the fact that Greggory the Eggory may also unwittingly be coerced by gramps and the lawyer in to trying to take the whole thing down from the inside. Will be interesting to see how far that goes. Was good to see the "Marcia is a power hungry, gold digging witch" sub-plot finally fully fleshed out as well. Been simmering along nicely since the very first episode, but was always through third parties (Logan trying to get her on the board of trustees, etc) rather than just bluntly delivered by herself. The Rhea "humiliation" has given her brilliant leverage, and I think that'll be one of the factors that eventually pushes at least one of the siblings over to Kendall (though more likely Gerri getting fucked over for Roman). Shiv may have had her wallet inspected by Logan more than any character in the history of television.
Detournement
The Nirvana riff coming in was incredible. I've got the feeling they are leading us towards some sort of Me Too revelation from Shiv and maybe even Roman and Kendall who are both being played as far too traumatised to be explained by being a rich arsehole. Poor Greg having to buy the expensive watch to impress Dasha. Hopefully he succeeds in dismantling capitalism with his Grandpa. The comparison with Logan has always been to Rupert Murdoch but I don't see him panicking the way Logan has done this season. Murdoch is untouchable.

Bairnardo
That was an absolutely fantastic piece of television.Yeah Iiked it. The way Shiv came apart as she lost control of the town hall was well done and presumably wont have gone unnoticed by auld Logan
Arch Stanton
14 minutes into S1E1 and the "NYPD Blue style" shaky camera, zoom in, then out, then in again every 5 seconds directorial technique is already ripping my knitting. Does it persist all the way through the series?

Arch Stanton
Alan Ruck has one of those faces you'd never tire of punching. I've always thought that from seeing him in Ferris Beuller but even more so in Speed.
Detournement
Another solid episode but it's not really caught fire like season 2. Adrien Brody's character was as much of a p***k as Logan. The part where he told Logan that he works for him was quite revealing as it shows how out of touch the Roys are. They are 20th oligarchs getting squeezed by the new breed of super rich like Stuey and Aaronson who don't get their hands dirty at all. Tom melting down is the highlight of the show right now, even Greg isn't taking his shit. I'm wondering if he will flip soon as he is becoming more and more obsessed with prison.

Terminal Tom with cancer of the career had in hysterics tbh. Same with Greg and the rum and Coke scene. Fantastic comedy in this episode.

This is the only music I associate with a rum and coke. Edited November 9, 2021 by Detournement

Arch Stanton
I've watched all 24 episodes in the last week or so, what a bunch of cunts, not one of them has any redeemable qualities whatsover. Other than Shiv and only because I have a thing for redheads.

Detournement
Everyone waiting around for two seriously ill old men to make a pivotal decision was on point for America 2016-2021. Shiv saying Tom would be in prison doing chin ups and reading Knausgaard was funny. Karl Ove's specialist subject is hating yourself and Tom seems to be hating every single of minute of his life. I want more of Greg's grandpa and Peter Reigert. Plus we are due an episode where everyone gets MWI soon.
DrewDon
Big fan of Jesse Armstrong working in so many subtle Peep Show references. Logan dropping a "shitmunchers" in the most recent episode, and there was also a Stefan Strauss in S2 being two of the more obvious examples.
